WHAT IS CLICKER TRAINING?

Clicker training is a positive reinforcement method that uses a small device, a clicker, to mark when your dog has done something right and a reward will follow.

It is the exact same concept as using a marker word such as 'good' or 'yes'.

When this unique sound is paired with a treat, dogs are more likely to perform desired behaviours.

If you are joining us for a training class soon, you are more than welcome to bring one along to try out!

ENRICHMENT IDEA ๐Ÿ“ฆ ๐Ÿ“ฐ

With the nights drawing in and the weather turning, you may need to find other ways of keeping your dogs occupied ๐ŸŒƒ๐ŸŒง

Why not create a dig/destruction box for them!

All you need is an empty cardboard box, paper packaging or newspaper and a few of their favourite treats.

1. Scrunch the packaging/newspaper and put them in the box.

2. Hide the treats among the scrunched packaging/newspaper in the box.

3. Allow your dogs to find and eat the treats.

Simple but very effective! ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿพ

๐Ÿ“Training Tip โ€“ Stop Unwanted Barking

๐Ÿถ Does your dog bark at everything? Hereโ€™s how to fix it! ๐Ÿพ

โœ… Engage more with your dog during potentially triggering situations
โœ… Where possible, allow plenty of space between your dog and potential triggers
โœ… If they are being good, reward with a treat from your hand or put it on the floor and tell them to "find it"
โœ… If they do get triggered and bark, remember to stay calm โ€“ donโ€™t reward barking with attention
โœ… Redirect your dog's focus with a command like โ€œwatch meโ€
โœ… Reward with praise and treats when your dog focusses on you
โœ… Try to reward again before your dog barks for a second time
โœ…Keep rewarding any quiet behaviour while the trigger is still in the environment
โœ… If your dog doesn't stop barking, walk away and try again when they have calmed down

Want expert help? Our trainers specialise in 'reactivity' using reward-based training that gets real results! ๐ŸŽฏ
