Thank you for all your well-wishes on the post I made earlier this week. Dobby has chronic bronchitis, so he’s going to have to start using an inhaler and steroids, so lots of conditioning work will be happening!

He’s doing okay though, lots of resting this week in the heat, and, now we know what it is, we can start figuring out what medication he needs 🙂

Proud of this little man today!
He’s spent the day at the vets having chest X-rays and a tracheal wash, so is feeling a bit sorry for himself this evening. Clear chest X-rays and we’ll await the results of his tracheal wash which should come back later in the week. He’s had a persistent cough so trying to find the cause of it!

He used to be terrified of the vets. Now he pulls me inside, the receptionists give him fusses and treats and he has a great time! We’ve been having regular vet socials for two years now, where we have an appointment based on him getting used to the vet setting and handling. We work on this in the home too, and it’s paying off! He had lots of positive feedback for how good he was, and this is a far cry from when he was more nervous a couple of years ago.

Such a good boy! Lots of cuddles and rest this evening.

With us heading into a warm week this week, take it steady. The first warm week of the year can often be a bit of a surprise and dogs haven’t acclimatised yet, so plenty of shade, water and slower walks are a must.

Dogs particularly at risk in higher heat are older dogs, puppies, dogs on certain types of medication, adolescent males, flat face breeds…

We’ll be taking it steady this week, with lots of access to water and breaks and shade 🐶🐶

We had a lovely morning with some pups and owners trailing to help me pass my Instructor Trailing Course 🐶 everyone was amazing! I can’t wait to bring you man and pet trailing sessions officially later this year!

I hope you’ve had a nice, restful day - with you enjoying the chocolate but keeping it away from those pooches! Actual eggs are much better for a dog that [poisonous] chocolate ones 🥚

Not trying to interact with the dogs we see on the street or in homes can make a huge difference to both the dog and owner.

It can help puppies build confidence and impulse control, make worried or reactive dogs feel safer and set the owner up for success.

Not to take away the joy of meeting dogs, but both dog and owner will make it pretty clear if they are keen to interact. And that’s when the question can the be asked if it’s okay to say hello.

Some of the best relationships I’ve had with dogs has started from waiting for them to make contact first.
