Meet Monty! 🐱✨

This handsome elderly gentleman — 19 years young — was the very first groom off the rank for Clip and Purr 💛

Monty’s mum reached out needing some help removing mats from his coat. Being an older boy (and just a little bit grumpy 😹), he struggles to groom himself these days, and his mum was finding it hard to stay on top of his coat at home.

With lots of patience, plenty of breaks, cuddles, treats, and working at Monty’s pace, we were able to gently clip away those uncomfortable mats and help him feel much fresher, lighter, and more mobile 🐾

It may not be a “perfect” groom, but for senior kitties like Monty, comfort always comes first — and I bet this sweet old man is now feeling like a brand new kitty, ready to rule the house again in his warm new coat for the colder weather ❄️🐱

A huge thank you to Monty’s owner for trusting Clip and Purr to help take care of her beautiful boy ✂️💛

Clip and Purr is officially OPEN for business and ready to welcome all the kitties into this beautiful new space 🐱✨

🐾 Belly, Crutch & Sanitary Clips — The Unsung Heroes of Cat Grooming 🐾
Not every cat needs a full clip… sometimes it’s the small areas that make the biggest difference!
Belly, crutch, and sanitary clipping are simple, low-maintenance grooming options that help keep your cat clean, comfortable, and mat-free — without removing their full coat 😻
✨ What is a belly clip?
This involves clipping the fur underneath your cat (their tummy area up to their armpits).
It helps prevent matting in a spot that’s prone to knots — especially in long-haired or fluffy cats who can’t always reach those areas properly.
✨ What is a crutch clip?
The “crutch” area refers to the inner back legs and around the hind end.
Clipping this area reduces matting and keeps things much more hygienic (especially for cats with thicker coats).
✨ What is a sanitary clip?
This is a focused tidy-up around the toileting area to prevent faeces or urine from sticking to the fur.
It’s perfect for maintaining cleanliness and avoiding unpleasant build-up (for both you and your cat 😅).
✨ Why the belly-to-chest area matters
The underside of your cat — from the belly, through the chest, and up into the armpits — is one of the most common places for tight knots and hidden matting.
This area experiences a lot of friction and movement, making it prone to painful tangles that can go unnoticed. Keeping this whole section maintained helps prevent discomfort and keeps your cat moving freely and happily.
✨ Why these clips are so beneficial
• Helps prevent painful matting
• Keeps your cat cleaner and more hygienic
• Reduces odours and mess at home
• Ideal for elderly, overweight, or less flexible cats
• A great in-between option if your cat doesn’t need a full clip
✨ Low stress, high reward
These targeted clips are often quicker and less invasive than a full groom — making them a great option for cats who are a little more sensitive or unsure.
🐱 Small clips. Big difference.

This morning was spent in the grooming room trialing all my equipment on some absolutely beautiful kitties 🐱✨

We had all kinds of personalities come through today — from the smoochy cuddle bugs, to the “please don’t touch my feet”, and the “push the boundaries and I’ll bite you” type 😂

Most of the cats enjoyed a good de-shed, brush out, nail trim… and of course plenty of cuddles along the way 💛

A HUGE shoutout to Phoenix Animal Rescue and one of my amazing work friends for trusting me with the loan of these gorgeous cats while I continue getting everything ready for opening day! 🐾

And just wait until you see how much fur came out of them all 😳😂

🐾 Lion Cuts for Cats — What You Need to Know 🐾
You’ve probably seen them — the adorable “mini lions” strutting around with their fluffy heads and shaved bodies 😻
But a lion cut is more than just a cute style… it’s often done for very practical reasons!
Here’s a quick guide to lion cuts and when they might be right for your cat:
✨ What is a lion cut?
A lion cut involves clipping the body short while leaving fur on the head, legs, and the tail — giving that classic “lion” look.
✨ Why do cats need a lion cut?
Lion cuts are usually recommended for:
• Severe matting that can’t be brushed out
• Cats who struggle to groom themselves (elderly, overweight, or unwell cats)
• Thick coats that become easily compacted
• Hygiene reasons (especially around the backend area)
✨ It’s not just cosmetic
While it looks cute, a lion cut is often about your cat’s comfort and wellbeing. Matted fur can pull on the skin, cause pain, and even lead to infections if left untreated.
✨ Things to consider
• Some cats may feel a little “unsure” after losing their coat — this is normal!
• Fur provides insulation, so keeping your cat warm post-clip is important
• Not every cat needs a lion cut — regular grooming can often prevent the need for one
✨ Prevention is always best
Routine grooming and de-shedding can help avoid heavy matting and the need for a full clip. Keeping on top of your cat’s coat means less stress for them in the long run.
At Clip and Purr, lion cuts are done gently, patiently, and always with your cat’s comfort as the top priority 💛

Today was MY turn! ✨🐾

After a massive weekend of laying floors, fitting skirting boards, more painting, cleaning, and what felt like approximately 700 trips to Bunnings 😂 (for Marc anyway) … today I finally got to start adding some of the final touches to the grooming space!

Honestly, none of this would be coming together the way it is without Marc being the driving force behind it all. He has worked so incredibly hard to help bring this vision to life, and I’m beyond grateful 💛

Seeing everything come together has honestly been the best feeling. What started as a vision in my head is slowly becoming a real! A beautiful space for cats of all kinds. 🐱

I’m SO excited to welcome all the little personalities through the doors soon — from the spicy ones to the smoochy ones 😹

Keep your eyes peeled… it’s not long now until Clip and Purr is officially ready to rumble!! ✂️🐾

🐾 Let’s Talk De-shedding (aka… less fur EVERYWHERE) 🐾
If you’ve ever found cat hair in your coffee, on your clothes, or somehow in places it shouldn’t be… this one’s for you 😅
De-shedding isn’t just for the fluffy, long-haired cats — short-haired kitties need it too!
Even though their coats are shorter, they still shed just as much (sometimes more!), and all that loose hair can build up, stick to everything, and get swallowed during grooming.
Here’s why regular de-shedding is a must for all cats:
✨ Reduces shedding around your home
Removing loose, dead hair means less fur on your furniture, clothes, and floating through the house.
✨ Fewer hairballs (for everyone’s sake 😬)
Less loose coat = less hair ingested = fewer hairballs. Your floors will thank you!
✨ Prevents matting (yes, even in short hair!)
Short-haired cats can still get compacted, dense coats that lead to matting and skin discomfort.
✨ Healthier skin & coat
De-shedding helps the skin breathe and distributes natural oils, leaving the coat soft, shiny, and healthy.
✨ More comfort year-round
Removing that excess undercoat helps keep your cat cooler and more comfortable — especially in warmer weather.
✨ Consistency is key
Regular de-shedding helps prevent coat build-up before it becomes a problem. As a general guide:
• Short-haired cats: every 2–4 weeks
• Medium and long-haired cats: every 4–6 weeks
Keeping on top of it means less stress, less matting, and a much happier kitty overall.
At Clip and Purr, every de-shed is done gently and at your cat’s pace — whether they’re long-haired, short-haired, or somewhere in between 💛
🐱 Less fluff. Less mess.
