Many parts of the UK will see temperatures over 30°C tomorrow (Friday 11th July 2025). Currently its 33°C in my garden in Cambridge (6:30pm Thursday 10th July).

Current UK Government Guidance
🇬🇧Transporting animals in extreme hot weather🇬🇧
🐎You are responsible for the welfare of animals you transport.
🐎If you do not have a temperature controlled vehicle, you should:
not transport animals in temperatures over 30°C
🐎Check the ‘feels like’ temperature for the intended route if humidity is high

Congratulations David Nichollsm

Not many people have been awarded the Order of the British Empire and out of those few I believe only couple of them are farriers!

A few weeks ago I have the privilege of having a conversation with David Nicholls AWCF BEM about his recent achievement and life as a farrier. It was a very informative chat and subsequently it has been published in the magazine.

David is an amazing man and an inspiration to the industry.

🌞 Temperatures are predicted to soar in the UK this week.🌞

Many of us will spend the hot days doing our best to keep our horses comfortable and help them cool down quickly.

The key things to remember are:

😎 The quickest way to cool horses is to continually pour cold water on them — it’s about the volume of water you can get on them.
😎 It’s not so much about the temperature of the water (10-25°C is fine) you apply.
😎 Crucially, you should not scrape the water off the horse.

“Studies show that continuous application of water removes heat through conduction — the direct movement of heat from the horse into the water," says Dr David Marlin.

“This happens due to the big difference in temperature between the horse (surface temperature 40°C or higher) and the water.

“If the temperature of the water is the same as that of the horse, it will only cool the horse by evaporation, which takes much longer than conduction.”

✨ WE ARE EXPANDING ✨

Heading into this new year we have a number of new and exciting horses joining us. Which means we are looking for our next member to join our team!

A role that has a lot to offer depending on your own ambition their is a lot of potential to grow with the job. Equally this could also suit somone more experienced and could take on managing more from the onset of up to 12 top competition horses and understands the responsibilities that come with the job.

We have a variety of horses ranging from 4 year olds, stallions and advanced GP horses, so experience with horses of this level is a must.

Chance for riding is possible but will depend on candidate and competition grooming opportunities with in the UK and potentially abroad.

Well done all that attending their regionals dressage recently. I will be preparing many ready for the regional final at Wellington in February and I will also be on site during some of the show.
