Today's Question: Why does my dog always bring me a toy when I walk through the door? 🧸🐶

Well, it might mostly just look like a cute party trick, but in reality there’s often a much deeper reason behind this common behaviour.

This is because many dogs bring toys as a way to self-soothe and manage their excitement, especially breeds like Spaniels and Labradors. That burst of joy when you come home? It can be super overwhelming, so grabbing a toy essentially gives them something else to focus on and helps them stay calm and regulated.

So, in this case, it's not always about showing off or wanting to play straight away - it’s their clever way of coping with all the happy chaos of your return. However, there is also an element of learnt behaviour too, because if you praise them for it, they'll also repeat it for more love and affection!

So next time you're greeted with a soggy plushie, know your pup is just trying their best to keep their cool! 😎

It's and to start off the week we asked our friends at Dorset Heaths to give us some of their top facts about Dorset's heathland:

🟣 Lowland heath is now very rare - in fact it is rarer on the planet than rainforest!
🟣 Some creatures only make their home on this kind of habitat and there are lots of plants that have adapted to this habitat which wouldn't be able to survive anywhere else.
🟣 There are 4 main species of heather found on the Dorset heaths; common heather (also known as ling), bell heather, cross-leaved heath and our very own Dorset heath.
🦎 Heathlands are the only habitat in the UK on which all 6 species of reptile can be found.
🕷Heathlands are home to one of the UK's largest spiders - the raft spider and the heaviest - the very rare female ladybird spider.
🐶We can help protect our beautiful heathlands and Dorset's countryside by following the Doggy Do Code.

Phew!

I’ve been so grateful to be kept busy in June. Last week in particular was a busy one! 😮‍💨😀🐶

Meeting lots of new dogs and exploring new walks reminds me why I have the best job in the world 🦮🐕‍🦺🐩

Looking ahead, I have some space for ad hoc walks in July.

If you’re leaving your dog in the care of somebody who might not be quite up to walking them, having a professional dog walker might be a great solution.
