Half Day Adventures are back!
📍Chapman’s Pool

Spring means the return of the sunshine and that can only mean long walks on the Dorset coast with some soggy dogs🍦
I’m so excited to spend Fridays this way over the summer ☀️

Half Day Adventures are 4 hours of frolics at various beaches in Dorset and are suitable for sociable, reliable dogs. Sea swims optional but enthusiastically encouraged!

🦮Great dog walks around Sherborne🦮

📍Hilfield Nature Reserve
(Hendover Coppice)
🚙 About 20 mins drive

This gorgeous walk through bluebell woods and cascading wild garlic is a great option for exploring a new local dog walk, with or without the family.
(Some effort has gone into engaging kids with a sculpture trail and some nature plaques dotted around.)

Make your walk as long or short as you like by choosing trails through the woods. We spent about 1.5 hours here and could have stayed longer. The path we chose is fairly steep, going both down then up the hill. This place lives up to its name!

Relax on benches in the field area and take advantage of the large space for throwing balls 🥎

There’s a great car park (although the stones flanking the entrance are too narrow for larger cars, there is also a large layby so you shouldn’t have any problem parking).

There are sadly no dog poo bins so don’t forget to take bags home with you!

Have you explored this walk?

It’s so nice to see their beautiful pops of colour but always be cautious with your dogs around daffodils 🐶 🌼🪻

DAFFODILS
Included are narcissus and snowdrops which are all part of the Amaryllidaceae family.
The whole plant is toxic for dogs especailly the bulbs. Even the water that daffodills have been sitting in can make a dog very ill if he/she drinks it.
Signs:
🔸Vomiting
🔸Diarrhoea
🔸Drooling
🔸Abnormal heart rate
🔸Difficulty with breathing
🔸Tummy pain
🔸Seizure
🔸Low blood pressure

Seek immediate veterinary attention if you think a dog has eaten any part of a daffodil plant.

🌟PRODUCT REVIEW🌟
Disclaimer: while I received this product for free, my words and opinion here are my own.

As a dog walker, I tend to use my clients' choice of harnesses and leads when walking their doggos. My favourite is when clients have a selection I can choose from!
I've definitely used my fair share of different harnesses over the years.

Ever eager to try out a new doggy product, I jumped at the chance to try a new harness for gorgeous Belle. Belle actually has a good quality harness but when her 'warp speed' is activated it becomes clear it's not fitting as well as it could be.

A typical labrador, Belle is a ball mad, puddle magnet, mud wallowing hippo - all reasons I love walking her (along with her brother and sister pugs🐶). And all reasons I knew she'd do some thorough quality testing!

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of both the harness and collar.
🐾They were both super easy to adjust to Belle's frame.
🐾The harness moved comfortably with Belle's movements - not too stiff and not too flimsy.
🐾I even struggled to get them off before I realised there were nifty locking devices on the clips. Truly 'escape proof!'

I did not use a lead with this harness nor collar so I couldn't comment on their performance with a lead attached. As always with any dog product, be sure to do your own research and buy with your own dog's specific needs in mind.

Thank you to The Dawn Dog 🐕

Great Sherborne dog walks series 🐕
📍 Purlieu Meadow

An extremely popular place to walk dogs in Sherborne, Purlieu (pronounced purrley) is located right by the train station and Sainsbury’s making it very accessible. There is ample on road parking on the garden centre side of the meadow too.

This is a public footpath running through a field that is generally acknowledged as a dog walking field. Never used for livestock to my knowledge, this is a great backup to have in mind if your usual field suddenly has cows in. The field is on rare occasion used as a car park for large events at Sherborne Castle.

There is a lovely river running along one edge, with a small wooded section, providing some variety and swimming opportunities for dogs who love to paddle.

Things to note:
🐾Not secure, the field is fenced but if your dog has unreliable recall or prone to chasing cars or wildlife it’s best to keep them on a lead
🐾A loop around the perimeter will take approximately 30 mins with options for extending below
🐾Lake Purlieu forms in the wetter months! The river tends to flood when it’s wet making one corner unusable.

Options to extend this walk:
🐶Head up the holloway to the woods and grassy area by the Terrace playing fields
🐶Even further from the playing fields, there is a footpath that will take you all the way to Longburton or Alweston
🐶For an extra long walk from Purlieu you could head up the path that leads behind Sherborne Castle

Have you tried this walk?
Where should I post about next? 🐶🐾
