Do you suspect that your pet has a problem with their eyes? Maybe you have noticed one or more of the following signs:
❓Bumping into things?
❓Appearing more clumsy?
❓Becoming more anxious or starting to become frightened more easily?
❓Becoming disorientated when playing out on walks?
❓Appearing confused, and the sound of your voice helps?
❓Struggling to find water, toys or food?
❓Starting to sleep more than normal?
❓Pawing at their face?
❓Swelling, redness, squinting or discharge from the eye?

A dog's eyes should be clear, moist, bright and react to light.

Poor eyesight isn’t just something that happens as our pets age (much like us!). These can also be signs that they need to be seen promptly by a vet, as pets are not only subject to many of the issues we experience as humans, such as conjunctivitis, ulcers, cataracts and glaucoma, but can also suffer from infections.

For those more serious concerns, we have the expertise in-house to support pets with more complex issues.

If you have any concerns, book in with our team.

Lovely Willow was so relaxed during her visit to our Sherborne practice, she fell asleep 💤

Willow didn't even realise her vaccination had been done! She was far more interested in cuddles (which we were also very happy about).

Meet Billy and his green bell 🥰

This gorgeous boy visited our team last week for a routine castration procedure. He thoroughly enjoyed his cuddles, and with a face like that, we couldn't resist snapping a photo 📸

We’re thrilled to bring this technology to our practice so that we can offer a safer, more comfortable experience for your pets.

Laparoscopic spaying is also known as keyhole surgery, which has numerous benefits when compared to traditional spaying. It is becoming progressively more popular with pet owners, especially those with more energetic pets.

If you’d like to learn more about laparoscopic surgery or discuss whether it’s the right option for your pet, please contact one of our team members today. You can also read more about the wider procedures we use laparoscopy for by clicking below!

A common misconception is that it needs to be really hot weather for our dogs to suffer from a heat-related illness (most commonly heatstroke).

However, due to the mechanisms our pets use to cool down, too much exercise, or if dogs are trying to rest post-exercise in a poorly ventilated environment, animals (not just dogs) can overheat.

So, how can we protect our pets?

☀️Ensure your pet always has access to shade (indoors, outdoors and during walks).
☀️Restrict exercise on warm days, avoiding ‘walks’ during the warmest parts of the day, avoid lots of running (such as chasing a ball), and perhaps breaking exercise down into more frequent but shorter walks.
☀️Always take a bottle of water during exercise to quench thirst and cool your pets down if required.
☀️Remember, if the pavement is too hot for the back of your hand, it’s too hot for their paws - they can burn easily!
☀️Never leave pets in a warm car or room (e.g. conservatory).
☀️Ensure your pet always has access to fresh, cool drinking water.
☀️For long or double-coat pets, ensure they're regularly groomed to help them regulate their body temperature.
