Can you guess what 2 breeds gorgeous Percy is crossed between? 😍

Gentle eyes, big paws, he is the most handsome boy. He visited our vet, Amaia, on Tuesday for his 2nd vaccinations and general health check. He was gentle, intelligent and inquisitive.

Grass seeds are small, sharp, and designed by nature to travel.

Unfortunately, this means they can easily attach to your pet’s fur and work their way into the body, causing significant discomfort and, in some cases, serious complications.

Grass seeds have a pointed shape that allows them to embed easily. Once they attach to your pet, they can pe*****te the skin or enter natural openings such as the ears. Unlike other foreign objects, they don’t simply fall out; they continue to migrate deeper into tissue.

Grass seeds are most often found in:
✅Ears
✅Between the toes (look for a puncture hole and redness)
✅Eyes
✅Nose
✅Under the skin

Symptoms can appear suddenly and worsen quickly. Keep an eye out for:
⚠️Persistent licking or chewing at paws
⚠️Head shaking or ear scratching
⚠️Swelling, redness, or discharge
⚠️Sneezing or nasal discharge
⚠️Signs of pain or discomfort

If left untreated, grass seeds can lead to infections, abscesses, and, in rare cases, can migrate deeper into the body, causing more serious complications.

If you suspect a pesky grass seed may be causing your pet discomfort, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

✨ IMPORTANT UPDATE - PET TRAVEL ✨

It has recently been announced that EU Pet Passports will no longer be accepted as valid travel documents for pet dogs, cats and ferrets owned by residents of Great Britain. Under new rules introduced by the UK Animal and Plant Health Agency, coming into force on Wednesday, 22nd April, all GB residents will now require an Animal Health Certificate (AHC) to travel with their pets to the EU. This applies even if the pet holds a passport issued in an EU member state or Northern Ireland.

We are aware that many of our clients regularly travel using EU Pet Passports. If your personal travel documents show that you are a GB resident and you are planning to travel using an EU Pet Passport, please be aware that an AHC is required for all non-commercial travel of pet dogs, cats, and ferrets into Europe, including for pets that already have an EU-issued passport.

We were not previously informed that these changes would be implemented, and are still awaiting further clarification on when the UK may rejoin the EU Pet Passport scheme, as previously indicated by the government last year.

If you have upcoming travel plans or any questions about this, please contact the practice to discuss any necessary appointments and paperwork.

It’s Feline Hypertension Awareness Month. Hypertension is the medical term for high blood pressure, which is a common condition seen in older cats. Hypertension in cats is most commonly secondary, which means that it occurs as a result of an underlying health condition.

Just like in humans, hypertension in cats can be a silent threat. Many cats show no obvious signs until serious complications develop, including vision loss, kidney disease, or heart problems.

👀 Signs to watch for:

- Sudden blindness or bumping into objects
- Increased vocalisation or confusion
- Changes in behaviour
- Seizures (in severe cases)

❤️ What you can do:

Schedule regular health checks, especially for cats over 7 years old
Ask us about blood pressure monitoring during routine visits
Keep an eye on subtle changes in your cat’s behaviour

Early detection can make a life-changing difference. If you have any concerns about your cat’s health, don’t hesitate to get in touch with our team.

Brace yourselves… this might be peak cuteness 🥰

Today, we had the absolute pleasure of caring for the very handsome Arlo, who came in for a cryptorchid castration. Unlike a routine neutering, this procedure is a little more complex because neither of Arlo’s testicles had descended, so our team had to go on a careful “treasure hunt” to find them.

This type of surgery is really important, as it helps prevent serious issues later on, including a much higher risk of testicular cancer and potential torsion.

Arlo, however, was an absolute superstar throughout - calm, brave, and taking it all in his stride 💪🐾 We couldn’t resist capturing a sweet moment of him snuggled up with his favourite teddy from home 📸💕

We're sure you'll join us in sending this beautiful boy lots of love and well wishes for a smooth and speedy recovery!

Sadly, we've had a deceased, young ginger female cat brought into Yeovil. She was found on Preston Grove at around 4.15pm, she is microchipped, but unfortunately, it is not registered.

If you think this could be your cat, please call the practice directly on 01935 474415.

Thank you 💔
