Shepton Vets

Shepton Vets We care for your pet as we do our own At Shepton Vets we recognise that your pet is a member of the family and strive to treat them as if they were our own.

Founded in 1922 we are a well established practice and our team of receptionists, nurses and vets serve the community in a professional and friendly manner. Our purpose built surgery can be found in quiet surroundings in the heart of Shepton Mallet. The surgery has ample parking, a spacious friendly waiting area and a friendly reception team waiting to greet you on your arrival. For your pet we pr

ovide modern medical facilities with a fully equipped surgical theatre, X-ray and ultrasound suite, separate kennels and cattery, as well as onsite laboratory and dental equipment. Our clinical team is lead by four experienced vets who have a range of interests that span both medical and surgical disciplines. They are supported by our team of fully qualified and student veterinary nurses who themselves offer consultations to support ongoing treatment plans as well as assisting with behavioural advice. At the practice we want to cater for all of your pet care needs, and so provide 24 hour emergency cover to help you and your pet during those most stressful episodes. We also offer a wide range of products and services through the practice to help keep your pet in the very best of health, and are always happy to give advice on these to tailor them to your specific needs.

Vet Greg recently visited Bush House Nursery in Pilton to chat with the children about how to look after their pets and what happens at the vet’s. Shep, the stuffed collie, was a Shepton Vets mascot and served as a great prop for the talk, while there was also some dressing up as operating vets!

Meet Panda!
He recently became a lifesaver when he donated blood for a patient in our care, who needed a transfusion.
Panda often spends his days chilling in the farm office with his mum, Sam, whilst she is working. One afternoon, he stepped up to donate blood when it was urgently needed. He was a very good boy and as you can see, he was completely unphased after the procedure, looking very proud of himself in his garden.
Well done Panda and thank you!🐾

Meet Finn!
Finn has Cerebellar Hypoplasia, a neurological disease which occurs when the cerebellum doesn’t form properly when the puppy is in the womb. This leads to coordination and balance issues.
He also has Myasthenia Gravis, an auto immune condition that causes muscle weakness, and Megoesophagus, a condition where the esophagus is abnormally enlarged and loses its ability to push food down correctly.
Due to these conditions he has a compromised ability to swallow, and therefore requires a Bailey’s chair to sit in for his meals. This sits him in an upright position, assisting the small food balls to “fall” down his oesophagus. If he didn’t have this modified method to eat, he would regurgitate food and water and have a high risk of aspiration pneumonia.
His owner is incredibly dedicated, and sits with him as he eats piece by piece, waiting the allocated time after to ensure the food hits his stomach before he can come out of his chair.
He is now steadily putting on weight and has just hit his first milestone!
Happy birthday Finn!🥳🐾
