Meet Finn!
Finn has Cerebellar Hypoplasia, a neurological disease which occurs when the cerebellum doesn’t form properly when the puppy is in the womb. This leads to coordination and balance issues.
He also has Myasthenia Gravis, an auto immune condition that causes muscle weakness, and Megoesophagus, a condition where the esophagus is abnormally enlarged and loses its ability to push food down correctly.
Due to these conditions he has a compromised ability to swallow, and therefore requires a Bailey’s chair to sit in for his meals. This sits him in an upright position, assisting the small food balls to “fall” down his oesophagus. If he didn’t have this modified method to eat, he would regurgitate food and water and have a high risk of aspiration pneumonia.
His owner is incredibly dedicated, and sits with him as he eats piece by piece, waiting the allocated time after to ensure the food hits his stomach before he can come out of his chair.
He is now steadily putting on weight and has just hit his first milestone!
Happy birthday Finn!🥳🐾
