🌿 History

Shepreth Wildlife Park managed a hedgehog rehabilitation program on-site for many years but, upon seeing the need for expansion, created the Shepreth Wildlife Conservation Charity (SWCC) in 2011. SWCC also helps many other conservation efforts worldwide and aims to raise awareness about endangered species, which is why you may occasionally see posts about other animals on this page too.

🌿 How to Help

We have an Amazon Wishlist which we keep updated with items we most need. You might be able to find these items cheaper elsewhere so feel free to shop around! https://www.amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/ls/10YC81KWYR2TS?ref_=wl_share

To make a monetary donation, please check out the links on this page:

We need lots of newspaper to use as bedding for the hogs, so an easy way to help is to save your newspaper and drop them off in the brown wheelie bins outside the hospital or outside the wheelie bins located at the shed near the top of the car park. If you remove the staples from them first we will be eternally grateful. Thank you for all your support! 💚

Meet Hatter, Mirana and Iracebeth ♥️🦔

These lovely little squidges came to us after their nest was disturbed and due to ongoing work they couldn’t stay where they were. Sadly their mum, Alice, wasn’t feeling her best so they weren’t in the best condition and sadly did reject them shortly after their arrival.

Our manager Kirstie has been rearing them for a week putting them at around 13 days old so hopefully eyes should open in the next 24-72 hours 🥰. We did sadly lose their brother Cheshire despite our best efforts but happy to report this trio is doing brilliantly.

If you would like to support our work please considering donating to our JustGiving page 👇🏻

We are very excited about the upcoming opening of our brand new SWCC Conservation Hub on May 25th!

This evolving space will be dedicated to nature, community and conservation. It will be a place to learn, share ideas and take action for wildlife. To celebrate this launch, we are proud to host several local organisations that share our vision:

Cambridge Greenpeace - A dedicated team of environmental activists committed to protecting our planet through creative campaigns, local events and fundraising throughout the city.

Thalia Waste Management - The team behind Cambridgeshire’s complete waste services, Thalia manages recycling, composting and waste treatment at their 400-acre Waterbeach Park to ensure a more sustainable county.

Sustainable Shepreth - A group of residents working alongside the Parish Council to tackle climate change and biodiversity loss through village-wide action and community engagement.

Cambridgeshire Mammal Group - Experts in surveying local wildlife, from otters to shrews. Their records provide the data necessary to protect our county’s wild spaces from development and illegal interference.

By bringing these groups together, we hope to start building a network of support for a stronger community dedicated to safeguarding the natural world.

Come and find out how you can be part of it!

Shush 🤫

Roxy one of patients gave birth last Monday to 4 little bundles of joy. As you can see, Roxy is a fabulous mum making sure all of them get back to the safety of her nest.

She has since moved off site to bigger accommodation to raise them in peace, good luck Roxy. 🦔♥️

Our brand new SWCC Conservation Hub will open its doors for the first time on Monday, May 25th at Shepreth Wildlife Park and we are having a celebration!

The SWCC Conservation Hub will be an evolving space dedicated to nature, community and conservation, where people will come together to learn, share ideas and take action for wildlife.

Celebrate with us this coming Bank Holiday Monday and get the chance to meet some remarkable special guests.

🦔 Hugh Warwick is a renowned ecologist, photographer and award-winning author as well as a spokesperson for the British Hedgehog Preservation Society and patron of our SWCC Hedgehog Hospital. He will be cutting the ribbon to our exciting new space and sharing words to inspire us all to be better friends with nature.

🦋 Clive Farrell is a pioneer in butterfly-friendly habitats, opening the UK’s first walk-through display, The London Butterfly House, in 1979. He has since opened other sites across the world, including the Stratford-upon-Avon Butterfly Farm, and we are thrilled to have him with us.

🛩️ Flt Lt Colin Bell DFC is a 105-year-old war veteran and friend of Shepreth. He is kindly donating a rare, signed Mosquito aircraft print for auction to raise funds for the SWCC Hedgehog Hospital. If you are a fan of WWII memorabilia, this is a one-of-a-kind opportunity!

You can't miss this celebration! More info: https://www.facebook.com/events/1816007419068355

Hedgehog Awareness Week is drawing to a close.

It might be the last day, but it’s never too late to sign the British Hedgehog Preservation Society pledge. Your commitment helps secure a future for these iconic creatures and our ecosystem: www.britishhedgehogs.org.uk/take-the-hedgehog-pledge-this-spring-sign-up-form

Today's Pledge: Become a National Hedgehog Monitoring Programme Volunteer Spotter

The British Hedgehog Preservation Society and People's Trust for Endangered Species run the National Hedgehog Monitoring Programme, surveying hedgehogs across the UK using trail cameras.

You don’t need to be an expert to volunteer! You can help by looking at images taken by these cameras and identifying the wildlife you see. That way, you will provide the vital data scientists need to understand where hedgehogs are thriving and where they need more help.

Find out more and sign up at: www.nhmp.co.uk

Thank you for following along with us all week! Which pledges did you take? Let us know in the comments!
