Share Rescue

Share Rescue SHARE Rescue is a non profit Siberian Husky Rescue. We rescue, foster and adopt out Siberian Huskies all over the UK, utilising a network of volunteers.

S.H.A.R.E – Siberian Husky Aid Rescue Education is a U.K wide rescue, specialising in re-homing Siberian Huskies and Siberian Husky Cross Breeds. We began our journey in August 2011 and since then have been growing every day to save this breed from ill fates that befall them through no fault of their own. All the staff dedicate their time for free to helping these beautiful, specialist dogs and ma

king sure they find loving forever homes by performing extensive home-checks, long distance transport (if needed) and a life-time of support. We rely on the support of our volunteers to help us with these tasks of transporting, fostering, fundraising and home-checking throughout the U.K. S.H.A.R.E was set up by Siberian Husky owners who wanted to make a difference in the large number of Huskies that are given up to kennels, abandoned or put up for re-homing on a daily basis: Together they bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the rescue. All dogs that come into our rescue are placed into the most suitable of home-checked foster homes. By doing this we provide a safe, loving environment for the dogs, whilst there we carry out thorough assessments on their behaviour and offer rehabilitation and training where needed. Following this assessment they are then ready for adoption.

We have a 14 year old boy Kimari (Kia) and his 14 year old sister Molly looking for a home πŸ˜” Kia needs to come back to us as we offer rescue back up for life, he has been with his sister for 12 years now and we couldn't bare to sperate them 😒. Both are said to be in good health and get on well with other dogs. No separation anxiety and quite happily pottering about their garden. Loving nice walks also. Kai is a Husky-GSD cross & Molly is a labrador cross.

They’ve lived a full life together, and now, in their golden years, they need someone kind, patient, and full of love to give them the comfort and stability they deserve.
It takes a special kind of person to open their heart and home to senior dogs. If that’s you, or someone you know, please fill out our home check form.

Let’s give them the peaceful, loving retirement they’ve earned.

We are beyond devastated to say Freya passed away late yesterday 😞

Her family and members of the team were with her and after cuddles, kisses and being told how much we love her, she fell asleep peacefully laid in her mum and dad's arms.

We desperately hoped we had more time 😭
She had made it through the transfusion and after many conversations, research and review of her scans and test result, we had started treatment for Hepatozoon and Babesia infections that have been reported to cause similar symptoms in a small number of case studies. A test was sent off and treatment began in the meantime (as the test result would take too long to come back) on the small chance it was these infections making her so poorly.

But the transfusion and medications she was on just weren't enough to slow the bleeding down to give us more time πŸ’”

The vets believed she was bleeding into her lungs and her brain and/or spinal cord causing her breathing difficulties, the lung shadows seen on the CT scan and the neurological symptoms we've been seeing these past few days. If she were bleeding anywhere other than the places she was, we may have had a better chance but once damage occurs in these areas, the fight becomes much harder.

With a harder time breathing, a rising temperature and worsening signs of damage to her nervous system it became clear we had run out of time and when we went to see Freya, she let us know she was ready now

So we did the last, and hardest, thing we could do for her and let her go

She passed away comfortable, warm, safe and loved with soft voices in her ear and tears on her fur

Something that little puppy who jumped from a roof to save herself from heat, dehydration and starvation could never have dreamed of

She spent the last month (and a bit) being treated like an absolute princess. She got the chance to be part of a pack that loved and protected her, got to run and play knowing she was completely safe with people that would have given everything to save her, she had whatever she wanted to eat and drink and developed expensive tastes! Toys..treats..comfy beds..the best food she could have..and being fully, totally loved

But it just wasn't supposed to end this way and it'll never be ok that we couldn't give her the future we promised her

Freya was only around two years old, still a baby to anyone that knows Huskies!
She had survived things we’ll never be able to understand and yet she was so full of trust, ready to love everyone and everything after all she'd been through

Despite her 'disability' and sweetness, she was also full of cheekiness and the husky attitude you can't help falling in love with. She had no clue she was disabled...she ran, played, gave her mum and dad heart attacks with her stunt dog behaviour, managed to hold things with her paws - everything a normal dog would do and usually more!

Which is exactly what makes this so hard

It will never feel fair that she fought so hard to survive and still didn't make it and her life was taken away just as it was beginning and we never got to see her grow into the girl she should've always been

We will always feel she deserved more but we know she left knowing true, deep love and what it meant to finally be part of a family and this matters more than anything

And we know that although she couldn't be healed in this life, she is now. Those legs are healed, the bleeding and strain on her body is gone and she is tearing her way to a better place to wait with all the other kids we've lost and we and her family will see her again

We have no idea what her final bill is at the moment but we know whatever it is, it was worth it ten times over to give her every single chance she wanted to live. I think 7k is the minimim but we'll update about this side of things in a few days.

The referral vets have gone above and beyond for Freya and we will forever be grateful for everything they did for her as we know it was so much more than her care alone and they were trawling the depths of their resources to try and figure out how to save her

We are also so, so thankful for everything they are still going to do

They have fully funded a post-mortem so we can all find some semblance of peace and meaning in losing her. Whilst it's possible we will still never know, it is hoped that they can learn what took her from us and her family, understand how to recognise it and treat it differently or sooner and that in her life can save another, maybe many others.

No matter how long we do this or how many dogs we lose over the years, the deafening silence and stillness that comes after they're gone will never get easier 😞

Freya, you were loved gorgeous, completely and utterly loved..

Run free now sweet girl, your legs are healed and strong, your eyes are clear and your blood won't make you poorly anymore. All we've lost before will meet you north of the bridge and you'll be safe, free and happy until we all see you again

Until then, you will never be forgotten and we hope in losing you, you will pave the way for others to be saved ❀️

Freya is currently having a platelet transfusion as a last ditch effort to save her πŸ’”

We see improvements in her since Sunday but she is desperately ill and other things have worsened

Our girl is still fighting and sat herself up when we went to visit, was aware we were there and wanted the cuddles she was given, kept kicking her oxygen mask off because it's annoying

We will not allow her to suffer but she isn't ready to give in yet so we feel it's wrong to take her chance away

Please, please keep her in your thoughts, she desperately needs whatever energy she can receive πŸ™ πŸ™

Her total bill at this vets is estimated to be Β£6,600 so far so whilst we know everyone is struggling right now, please if you can spare a pound or 2, we still desperately need to fund her treatment πŸ’”

Whatever your faith or beliefs, please send prayers and good thoughts Freya's way 😭😭

A full update will be given later but this weekend saw a deterioration in Freya's health and after being hospitalised this morning, she is now at Davies Referrals where we are hoping her life can be saved πŸ’”

Current thoughts are cancer/a brain tumour or toxicity from a medication she began Wednesday and stopped Saturday due to side effects

She is practically comatose with potential seizures but her heart rate, breathing, temperature and gum colour are all good and we have seen some signs of awareness from her

Her bills will now drastically rise but we must figure out if this is recoverable or not before making the decision to let her go 😞
We owe it to her 😭

If you can spare anything, please donate to her care πŸ’”πŸ’”
You can do that here

We are all heartbroken for June & Ary who opened their hearts to our Koda, who was 13 years old. He was there 2 months when they officially adopted him last year ❀️
Sadly, Koda passed away on Monday πŸ’”
He spent his last year with his pack being so well looked after, surrounded with love. There are no words that could ever truly express how much it means to us that you adopted Koda. You've given him the love and safety he so deeply deserved, and for that, we are forever thankful. Run free over rainbow bridge, beautiful boy 🌈

πŸ’” FREYA UPDATE - She is in trouble and needs our help more than ever πŸ’”

I wish this was good news but it's not πŸ’”

We've been pretty quiet with Freya updates lately, and honestly, it’s because things have been really tense behind the scenes 😒

When Freya arrived in the UK at the beginning of the month, we hoped it was the start of her beautiful new life...the beginning of her healing, of safety, of love...of a life she'd never been given the chance to have. But these last few weeks have brought setback after setback and right now, Freya is facing more than we ever expected 😭

Within days of her landing, it became apparent Freya was unwell 😞

Beginning with refusing to eat, she then became rather quiet and lethargic and was holding herself like she was in pain (despite being on pain relief already). We got her to the vet straight away where they had a good look at her and she was diagnosed with an eye infection and entropion in both eyes πŸ’”

This is a painful condition where her eyelids roll inward, making her eyelashes constantly rub against her eyes. It’s like having grit in your eyes every time you blink which I'm sure we can all relate to 😩
She was started on pain relief, anti-sickness medication, antibiotic eye drops and lubricating gels to keep her comfortable. Entropion requires surgical correction and adds thousands to her expected vet bills 😞 Luckily the orthopaedic vet that will be looking at her legs can also do this surgery but we are a long, long way from this point yet 😭

After this, things got even worse. Freya began coughing and wheezing, so it was straight back to the vet...
She was diagnosed with both an upper respiratory infection and a urinary tract infection 😞
This meant more antibiotics and a cough syrup. Then her face started to swell! We added antihistamines to the growing list of medications and still, she wouldn't eat and her energy levels dropped again..

Blood tests were carried out to try and get to the bottom of what was going on for our poor girl. The results weren't awful but weren't great either. Freya was anaemic and her platelets were low so further tests were run to check for blood parasites and tick-borne diseases. These tests were run before she came to the UK and the results were clear but these can be symptoms so it was best to re-test and double check but these tests came back clear too and we were still none the wiser to what was hitting our girl so hard...

Freya continued to go up and down...She'd show signs of feeling better then she'd crash again with each dip adding another layer of worry 😞 She'd run (yes! She can still run!), then she'd refuse to eat ...She'd play, then her cough would worsen...

Then came severe diarrhoea that constantly leaked and severe lethargy and we were terrified we would lose her πŸ’”
We began probiotics and rehydration formula. After another tense day of refusing food and water, she finally ate and drank. It was only a little but felt like a lifeline πŸ™

Her energy began to return slowly over the next few days. She started to play again, bond with the resident dogs and enjoy her visits to an off-lead field πŸ₯Ή

We did have to cancel her orthopaedic appointment as she was too unwell to be sedated but her tummy settled, her eyes looked brighter and for the first time in weeks, we started to breathe again.

Then came Tuesday.

Her bloods were re-tested, and we were knocked sideways. There had been no improvement in her red blood cells and her platelets are now non-existent. Nothing. Her body can no longer clot blood on its own πŸ’”

The vets believe she’s suffering from an immune-mediated disease where her immune system is attacking her own cells....The other possibility is cancer 😭

Freya is now on steroids to try and stabilise her and she’s back at the vets again tomorrow for another round of blood tests. Every day feels fragile right now and we are doing everything we can to keep her safe and comfortable while we search for answers. The surgeries she needs for her legs and eyes are out of the question at the moment as her blood is unable to clot and surgery would kill her.

Thankfully, after adjusting her meds, she’s finally eating again and we’ve even seen the callouses on her legs begin to heal which we hope is a small sign that something might be shifting in her body. We are clinging to that hope with everything we have 😩

But hope only carries us so far πŸ’”

Thanks to some incredible support from Avon and Somerset Snow Dogs and Sally’s Helpful Paws, we’ve managed to keep things going until now. But we’re at breaking point and we can’t do this alone.

The donations raised for Freya so far are already gone 😞
Used up in vet visits, tests and treatments we didn't know she would need.

This isn’t what we expected when we brought her here, but we can't give up on her now.
We see how hard she’s fighting and feel the love and trust she still gives so freely.
She deserves a future 😭

Please, if you’re able to donate, anything at all would help us keep going.
Help us cover her next blood tests, her medication and eventually the surgery she still needs for her eyes and legs...if her body allows us to get there.

If you can’t donate, please share Freya’s story.
She needs a community of people that love her right now to show her that her life matters and that she hasn’t come all this way for nothing πŸ’”
