Hi All, it’s that time of year again when I take a much needed family holiday 😱

I’m officially on holiday from Monday 29th and back to work on Tuesday 7th October. However from Friday 26th to Sunday 28th I’m at Farrier Focus. Which if I don’t get all my CPD points I will be in big trouble 🤣🤣

While I’m at Focus, I will have my diary with me and I will be able to get back to you all during breaks in the day but you will have to bear with me. However, this year I will not be taking my diary with me on holiday (I’ve been told no 🤣) and therefore I will not be responding to work messages until I am home.

As usual I will have farrier cover for EMERGENCIES ONLY, I will share details nearer the Monday as they are all at Focus with me beforehand.

Thank you all for your continued support,
Michael

🐴Heartfelt post to all customers🐴

It’s with a heavy heart that I have to write this post but I need to ask you all to remember I am only one person. I too have a family and I too need time off. I appreciate that lately by me doing Hickstead it can have an impact on my availability but for my own family Hickstead is a choice I have to make.
Therefore between the Hickstead show dates my daily working day is extremely long already, with most days leaving the house before 6am and rarely returning home before 8pm at night. Then I have customers ringing expecting me to add their horses onto these already long days and when it’s just not possible I am met with ‘but I need it now’. As I said I am only one person and I have a family at home but it seems that it’s deemed I’m not entitled to those earlier evenings or days off if it means someone doesn’t get what they want now.
Whilst this post is not aimed at all and I am very lucky to have some of the most amazing customers, the bad sides to the job are outweighing the good for me at the moment. I know I can be rubbish at replying and I do try very hard to work on that and I do tell everyone I know I can be rubbish but at the moment I literally do not have enough hours in the day for the admin side of the job. And no disrespect but when I get home at 8pm (or later) I don’t want to start responding as it opens the door to messages at all hours.
I pride myself in being able to do the very best job I can do for every one of my customers and I try so hard to fit everyone in asap and keep everyone happy but at the moment this is not helping my happiness. I need to find a happy medium and once this next 10days at Hickstead is over I will be working out some changes to my working week. As well as enjoying a very long overdue holiday a few weeks after that.
I hope that you all can understand and appreciate where this post is coming from and it’s truly been hard for me to have to do this but I have to put myself and my family first. Ultimately I do my job for them but I do really love my job. Please bare with me during this time and I promise with a bit of support from you all things will ease up

Warm wishes
Michael

⚒️Hickstead⚒️

Just a reminder to all that I’m the Hickstead farrier again this year so the following dates I will be unavailable for my regular shoeing in my usual capacity. I will aim to add extra appointments in on the days around Hickstead and will still endeavour to get to emergencies as quickly as possible, but please bare this in mind when booking appointments.

As you all know it’s a busy time of the year in general with the show season being in full swing soon enough, so as is always the case make sure you book in your next appointment when I am out at your current one. So for the next few months please ensure you do this to avoid disappointment and to make sure we can get a date in that suits you best.

Dates for Hickstead are as follows
18-22nd June
27th June
22-27th July
14-17th August
27-31st August
3-7th Sept

If any of you are at Hickstead pop and say hello 👋

As always thank you all for your support

Thanks
Michael

Note to all Customers

Unfortunately due to rising costs of stock, fuel, gas etc as of tomorrow (1st April) my prices will be increasing. I’ve put this off for as long as is possible as I hate to do this but I’ve reached a point where it needs to happen.
**Updated to say this only applies to shoeing not trims. All trims will remain at the current prices**

I have tried to let you all know in person, so hopefully this isn’t too much of a shock. I have also tried to ensure my prices are the same as other farriers in the area.

I also need to remind everyone that shoeing needs to be paid for on the day or by latest 8pm the same day. At the moment I am having to spend too much time chasing clients for payment, which I should not have to do. This is especially the case for remedial shoeing. I understand this comes at more of a cost to you, but it also comes at more of a cost to me upfront as the supplies are at a much higher cost.

Whilst I still remain happy to help people with paying after the shoeing for genuine reasons, this is becoming all to regular. So unless agreed with me 24 hours before your appointment, I will have to move appointments to a more suitable able date to allow for payments on the day.

As always I thank you all for your continued support and custom. I do think I have some truly brilliant customers

Thanks
Michael

Overreach boots!

These are essential for turnout - especially after the Great British weather we've been having. Adding a layer of protection allows your farrier to shoe for hoof health not just a muddy field.

A piece of rubber/neoprene vs. A 500kg horse, galloping full pelt, doing mud gymnastics may not stop them from pulling a shoe but they certainly will protect from cuts, nicks, slips and missteps and can save a lot of unnecessary shoe loss and damage that comes with that.

Overreach boots work best when -
✅ They cover the entire back of the foot
✅ Cover the sides of the foot
✅ Are a snug fit
✅ Have secure fastenings
✅ Don't rub
✅ The horse can still move freely
✅ Sausage boots can be a good alternative for hind limbs
✅ Double up if you need to
✅ Check them daily for breakages and rubbing
✅ Always have a spare pair!

Ps. If your horse loses overreach boots frequently - good! They're doing their job. They're a great investment!

⚒️Holiday⚒️

It’s that time of year again where I dare to take a week off 🙈🤣 I will be away from Friday 27th September and back to work on Tuesday 8th October.

I will have cover during this time for emergencies so I will provide details of their contact details nearer the time. But as always please bear in mind they will also be busy with their usual rounds so it will be just for genuine emergencies.

If you need to book in for when I am back please message me on my business page and I can sort out bookings for you. However this coming week and the week I am back I have limited availability.

As usual thank you all for your continued support

Michael
