🚨 Please Read: A Message to Anyone Looking to Rehome Their Dog 🚨
We’re sharing this post because recently we’ve had an increasing number of people asking us to rehome their dogs, then changing their minds, going silent, or rehoming the dog elsewhere after we’ve already started helping. This is becoming a serious problem and it is directly affecting our ability to support other dogs who desperately need us.
We are a small volunteer-run rescue. Every one of us has jobs, families, and other responsibilities. We give up our free time to help dogs in need and when someone contacts us for help, we take it seriously and act quickly.
But when people back out or stop responding partway through, it wastes a huge amount of our time and energy. It also prevents us from helping other dogs who may have no other option.
Please only contact us if you are completely certain about your decision to rehome and have already tried other options, such as asking trusted friends or family. Rehoming through a responsible rescue is not a quick or casual solution. It is a careful process focused on your dog’s long-term welfare.
Here is how the process works:
- We ask detailed questions to fully understand your dog and their needs
- We check our list of approved adopters to see if anyone is a suitable match
- If there is no match, we create and share a social media post to gather interest
- We respond to enquiries and send out adoption application forms
- Completed forms are reviewed and in-person home checks are arranged
- Once the best-fit adopter is chosen, we arrange transport from your home to theirs
- The dog begins a two-week foster trial with ongoing support from our team
This takes time. It often takes weeks and sometimes longer. Everything is done by volunteers who are fitting this work in around their own lives.
Our involvement does not end after rehoming. We follow up with all our adopters at two weeks, one month, three months, and six months. We also stay in touch for years and may carry out random spot checks. This is what proper rescue support looks like.
When someone wastes our time, it affects more than just us. It takes attention away from other dogs we could be helping. It lets down the volunteers, the fosterers, and the adopters who were ready to welcome a dog into their home. It is also emotionally draining for those of us who care so deeply about getting it right for every dog.
If you are genuinely ready and committed to working with us to rehome your dog, we will do everything we can to help. If you are unsure, please take time to think it through before contacting us.
Thank you for understanding and respecting the work we do
