Today’s Christmas star is… Bourbon 🌟

Bourbon is almost 12 years old and has been coming to hydrotherapy since we opened the clinic back in the spring 🤩

Bourbon has may accolades to her name, and has competed in agility up to grade 7, novice level obedience including competing in the Obreedience finals at Crufts 3 times, and achieving her good citizen gold just to name a few! 😱

Her hydrotherapy and physiotherapy helps her to manage age related symptoms, and maintain her fitness and every day comfort 🥰

She is truly a one in a million dog, and puts enthusiasm into everything she does! Keep being awesome Bourbon ✨

Today’s Christmas star is… Tyson 🌟

Tyson is a 6 year old French bulldog who has been coming to hydrotherapy for almost 3 years, following a Hemilaminectomy (Spinal surgery) when he had a slipped disc 🐾

Tyson has since been coming for water treadmill every 2 weeks to help keep him strong and reduce the risk of another slipped disc 💪🏼

He is always very enthusiastic in his sessions, loves his treats in his rest breaks, and never fails to make us laugh with his funny personality 🥰

Keep being your enthusiastic and loving self Tyson, you’re a star!🌟

Today’s Christmas star is… Fraggle 🤩🎄

Fraggle is 12 years young, and has been having hydrotherapy and physiotherapy for nearly 3 years now following a total hip replacement as a younger dog, and some age related arthritis 🐾

She is now an absolute pro at her hydrotherapy, and loves her massage during her physiotherapy sessions 💆‍♀️

A combination of therapies keeps Fraggle fit and strong so she can carry on with her nice long woodland walks which she absolutely loves! 💕

Thanks for always having a happy smiling face and being such a pro at hydro! 🌟

Starting with… Flynn 🐶✨

Flynn has been coming to hydrotherapy for just over 2 years now, at our old centre and now the canine wellness centre!

Flynn is 12 years old and started hydrotherapy for a fore limb lameness, which has since completely resolved with the help of under water treadmill 💦 and he has since been coming for sessions to help maintain his muscles and joints as he reaches older age 🩵

Flynn LOVES his treats, and was very happy with his Christmas gift from Santa Paws at the wellness centre🎅🏻🎄

Thanks for always being the happiest boy Flynn and acing every session! 🤩

🐾 Why Physiotherapy & Underwater Treadmill Matter for Sporting Dogs 🐾

Agility, flyball, obedience and other canine sports place huge physical demands on our dogs. While they may look effortless flying over jumps and powering through courses, repetitive high-impact movements can take a toll on joints, muscles and soft tissues.

✨ Physiotherapy helps sporting dogs by:
• Improving strength, flexibility and balance
• Reducing the risk of injury
• Identifying and addressing minor issues before they become major problems
• Supporting faster, safer recovery after competitions or injuries

💦 The underwater treadmill is a game-changer for performance dogs
The buoyancy of water reduces joint impact while still allowing controlled, targeted exercise. This means:
• Safer conditioning without overloading joints
• Improved muscle strength and cardiovascular fitness
• Enhanced range of motion
• Confidence building during rehabilitation

At The Canine Wellness Centre, we focus on keeping sporting dogs performing at their best — not just getting them back after injury, but helping prevent injuries in the first place.
Because a strong, balanced dog is a happy, successful athlete. 🐕‍🦺💪

🐾 Why Stretching Matters for Your Dog

Just like us, dogs benefit big time from regular stretching! Whether they’re recovering from an injury, staying active, or simply getting older, stretching helps keep their bodies moving comfortably and confidently.

💙 Benefits of stretching:
• Improves flexibility and joint mobility
• Reduces stiffness — especially after rest
• Helps prevent injuries
• Supports healthy posture & movement
• Enhances muscle recovery after exercise
• Promotes relaxation and reduces tension

🕒 When should you stretch your dog?✔ Before exercise — to warm up muscles and prepare the body
✔ After exercise — to cool down and prevent soreness
✔ In senior dogs — regular gentle stretches help maintain mobility
✔ During rehabilitation — guided stretches support recovery
✔ After long periods of rest — perfect for those “just woke up” stiff moments

💡 Safety tip: Stretching should always be slow, gentle, and never forced. If your dog resists, pulls away, or shows signs of discomfort, stop. For dogs recovering from injury or with mobility issues, professional guidance is key.

✨ Want to learn which stretches are right for your pup? Book a physiotherapy session and we’ll tailor a plan just for them!

🐾 Joint Health Tips for Every Dog! 🐾

At The Canine Wellness Centre, we’re all about keeping your pups happy, mobile, and pain-free—no matter their age.

Here are a few simple ways to support your dog’s joints at home:
✔️ Use non-slip mats on slippery floors to prevent slips and strain.
✔️ Add a ramp for getting in and out of the car (their joints will thank you!).
✔️ Skip the ball throwing—quick stops and twisting can be tough on joints. Try gentle fetch or sniff walks instead!
✔️ Start joint supplements early, not just for senior dogs. Supporting joint health when they’re young helps protect them long-term.

Healthy joints = a happier, more active dog 🐶💛

❄️ Winter Is On the Way – Here’s What to Consider for Your Dog ❄️

As the temperatures drop and the frosty mornings roll in, it’s important to give our dogs a little extra support. Winter can be tough on their paws, joints, and comfort levels, so here are a few things to keep in mind:

🐾 Watch out for ice & grit
Icy paths and road grit can cause irritation and even burns on your dog’s paws. They also increase the risk of slipping, especially for older pets. Try to avoid heavily treated areas and consider using doggy boots for senior dogs or those with mobility issues.

🌬️ Cold weather = stiffer joints
Dogs with arthritis often feel more discomfort in the winter. A warm jacket on walks can make a big difference, and using gentle heat therapy before exercise can help loosen up stiff joints.

💦 Hydrotherapy tip
If your dog comes to us for hydrotherapy, remember to bring their drying robe. It helps keep them cosy, warm, and comfortable before and after their session—especially on those chilly winter days.

Winter doesn’t have to slow your dog down. A few small adjustments can keep them happy, comfortable, and moving well all season long. 💙🐶

🐾 Myth vs Fact – Working Together for Your Pet 🐾

Myth: “Vets and rehab therapists work separately.”

Fact: At The Canine Wellness Centre, we work hand-in-hand with your vet to give your dog the very best care. 🐶💛

Rehabilitation isn’t something that happens on its own—it’s part of a bigger picture. We stay in close contact with your veterinary team to make sure everything is aligned, whether it’s:
✨ Balancing medication
✨ Reviewing diagnostic imaging
✨ Adjusting treatment plans
✨ Supporting conservative management
✨ Tracking progress and adapting as your pet improves

When professionals communicate, your dog benefits. And that’s exactly how we work.
Your pet’s wellbeing is a team effort—and we’re proud to be part of that team. 💙🐾

🌊🐾 Who Is Under Water Treadmill Therapy For?

At The Canine Wellness Centre, we’re passionate about helping every dog move, feel, and live better — and hydrotherapy is one of the most versatile tools we use to make that happen.

The beauty of hydrotherapy is that it supports dogs at every stage of life and in a wide variety of conditions. In fact, most dogs can benefit from it unless your vet advises otherwise.

The buoyancy of the water reduces pressure on joints, while controlled resistance helps build strength safely and comfortably.

Hydrotherapy can be especially beneficial for:
✨ Arthritis & Joint Pain – Gentle movement reduces stiffness and helps maintain mobility.
✨ Post-Surgery Recovery – Ideal for rebuilding muscle and improving confidence after procedures such as cruciate repairs or spinal surgeries.
✨ Weight Loss Journeys – A low-impact way to burn calories and build fitness without straining joints.
✨ Neurological Conditions – Encourages controlled movement, balance, and coordination in a safe environment.
✨ General Fitness & Conditioning – Fantastic for active dogs, working breeds, or any pup who needs a structured way to stay strong.

Every dog deserves to move freely and feel their best — and we’re here to help them do just that. 💛
