Trevor COOPER from Dog Law SOS, COOPER &Co solicitors has a campaign running at this time see below:

We’ve launched an e’petition calling for the law to recognise that pets are family - not property - and we’d love your support.

Link to petition: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/714902

Why this matters:

If, like us, you work with animals every day, you may already know that under current law, pets are still legally considered “chattels”. That’s in the same category as a chair or a waistcoat. As a result, in legal disputes, Courts aren't required to consider:

· A pet’s welfare;

· Who’s best placed to care for them;

· The emotional bond they share with their owner;

· Or the value that each pet has to their owner.

Although the public tend to view their pets as family, the law views them as property. It’s outdated. It’s unfair. And with your help, we can change it.

Here’s how you can help:

✅Sign the petition: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/714902
✅ Share it with your clients, friends, family and community
✅ Forward this email to others in the animal world
✅ Tag on social media

We want legislation to: 1. Make a pet's welfare the paramount consideration when Courts resolve disputes over their ownership and possession. 2. Recognise a pet's true value as being the value to its owner, not just its open market price. 3. Require Court cases regarding pets to be expedited.
