Spring seemed to have started, well sort of but this week lot chillier than last week. But main thing it’s been lot drier these last few weeks and the big yellow thing came out too, so always a bonus 🤣. Bales seem to be flying out of the yard and still some left in the sheds, though all is mainly spoken for, we not sure if be any surplus for any extra customers, as we get a lot of enquiries asking about bales!
Though we have been in business since 2008 and have a good customer base and still supply people from back from 2008!
We have seen a lot of others selling bales online and some might be trustworthy, some aren’t looking at some posts we’ve seen. Not only we do our best for our customers, we do inform when we are going to deliver/do a job. But if we have to change time we always keep the customer updated. So rest assured we are 100%. We are also cheaper from what iv been told too 🫢😆.
Paddock work jobs have started on home hay fields. Spraying will be starting soon. Just need temperatures to increase with soil temps too. Then some grass can be drilled.

Please understand the following. It’s been a tough decision and not wanting to put customers off, but as they should be aware of the national shortage of hay and straw etc, with regret we are having to increase prices to suit. We have been monitoring forage sales and other dealers selling and there prices are in some cases double what we have been selling for. We understand like everything these days costs rise and thus from next week, wk commencing 26/1/26 our new price list will apply for bales leaving the yard. Please enquire if haven’t already. Sorry again and hope you understand. 🫣

Happy New Year All 🎉 and yes few days late but better late than never! First day back for us at work today with deliveries after the Xmas break. Was fun hearing stories off customers what they got up to over the Christmas period but now we’re in 2026 this year hopes to be better than the previous one! Hopefully grass will grow better and get back to normal yields, as still a shortage going about across the country. Have even seen people mowing for silage this past week for the cattle men/women as not only the equine market is struggling for feed.
It’s nice the ground is frozen to allow us not to get stuck on deliveries 😂 with the truck but some have had snow and some like us non.
Anyway hope all had a nice festive period and are looking forward to 2026!

It’s getting closer to the big day, only 15 sleeps to the Big man comes and surprises lots of kids🎄🎅, well depending how good you’ve been you also might be lucky 🤪.
Enough of the season joy, just a quick update to say when we are closing for Christmas and opening again. Close on Friday 19th and open January 5th. Any emergency orders between this period of closure will result in a forfit of an extra Christmas gift for our hassle 😁😳😆. But hopefully all orders will be done before we close so you have enough until we open again.
As you are aware we had to increase prices of bales this season and going by what others and what has recently been sold at York bale sale, our bales are lot cheaper than what was sold there! It’s going be a hard spring as supply’s are limited, so please bear that in mind.

Well the team managed to sneak off for few weeks to Orlando to see Mickey and friends and had fun but we are back and busy with deliveries and 2nd cut (hard to find) Haylage. As you may be aware this year yields are more than 50% down to average and we have had to turn down new customers. It’s not what we want to do but we only think have enough stock for the regulars we supply. Luckily this week on our return the weather has been ok and more settled ahead so we have cut what’s left to do in round and small bale Haylage. Grass growth is still active and every bit helps this year!

We have been a little busy recently but have started hay jobs and some Haylage was done in early June. So far yields on own and customers fields are down 30-70% compared to average years and straw will be suffering to a degree due to the lack of rainfall so far this year. We have taken the following steps coming into effect 1st August. Firstly price of bales will be more than current price. Secondly we won’t be taking on any new customers at present as past customers take priority. Thirdly due to an increase in non payers, all bills not on a payment plan will have to pay upfront or on delivery/collection. We are trying to run a business not a charity!
Sorry for the bleak news, just we have bills to pay on time and should be the same for all.
Some pics or jobs so far and breakdowns 😩

We have a new addition to the fleet at B&L, it’s green but not the same type of green as we usually have but this one has joined the fleet to make up more classics we have. Welcome “Oh no, John Deere is Here!” She is a 6920s so you might see it about in the near future just needs some tlc.
On other news as didn’t want to say about it yesterday on April fools day, but the sun is out and land is drying up and warming up in stark contrast to last year at same point so some paddock jobs will be done and work to the hay fields on the farm. We also still got some small hay bales plus some round and square. Haylage is very limited but mainly reserved for regulars. Still plenty of straw in small and big. Contact for more info. We also had the new Fendt 620 on demo a few weeks ago which was nice but the £ wasn’t 😳🤪 and the team has been down to London for one of the family farm tax marches where somehow I got interviewed on GB News! 🫣😂

From the team at B & L Equine Services we wish you all a happy 2025! Let’s hope it is a gooden and things go to plan!

Well Christmas isn’t far away and we have just come back from a lovely holiday in Lapland (Finland). A few other things have gone on these last few months since our last post from our trip to London to support fellow farmers and other businesses affected by this useless government to re seeding new grass fields at the family farm. Plus the usual deliveries of hay, Haylage and straw, not to forget the very late 2nd cut Haylage!
But we just want to say that we will be closing over the festive period to spend time with loved ones near and far from 20th December until 6th January 2025. We wish you all a happy Christmas 🎄and new year 🥂🍾and please get your orders in before we close. Again, Closed Dec 20th - 6th Jan.

Things been quiet on here of late but we still about. Harvest is just about done apart maybe a chance of some more 2nd cuts if the weather lets us but that it looking less likely as time goes bye. We have sold lots of straw this year with the UK demand plus have the sheds full of hay and straw and Haylage. We have been doing other little jobs inbetween and have a new grass field to put in on the farm but the weather may delay that too. All we can do is see how it goes and keep on smiling 😊
