🐾🐱Seaham Vet’s Cat Neutering September Promotion🐱🐾

As an independent practice we are very much aware of the cost of living crisis. In order to help support our local community and all clients, we are offering a FREE* neutering scheme under the following guidance:

🐱 Available to individual registered clients - new and existing.
🐱In order to ensure all cats are fit and healthy to undergo anaesthetic, a vet health check must be attended prior to booking in for neutering - this will incur a consult fee of £49.99. If any medication is needed arising from this health check, it will be to pay for. Cats need to be over 5 months old.
🐱An appointment for neutering will only be made if a clean bill of health is given.
🐱Our promotional neutering slots are extremely limited and only available through the month of September.
🐱Legally all cats over 20 weeks old must be microchipped. Cats admitted for surgery that are not microchipped will have an ID chip implanted whilst under general anaesthetic at a cost of £20.49, which will need paid on admit. As this is a legal requirement, if the microchipping is declined then the free neutering will not take place.
🐱Our Free neutering promotion covers standard flank spay of female cats and castration of male cats with two testicles present only. It also includes pain relief up to a maximum of 5 days for female cats, buster collar to go home with and 2 post operative checks with our veterinary nurses.

NB* Our promotion does NOT cover
Initial vet health check (or any medication needed arising from this consultation), microchipping, pregnant cat spays, male cats with retained testicles, pyometra surgery, medical suits or any costs associated with post op complications. Unfortunately, as we are offering this promotion as an independent practice, our free neutering is not available to charities.

We’re currently experiencing technical difficulties with our Wi-Fi. This has therefore had a knock on effect to our system, card machine and phonelines. Please be patient with us as we work to resolve this as quick as possible. We politely ask to bring cash where possible when visiting the clinic today. We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

🦴🧠Here at Seaham Vets we are big advocates of pet enrichment. We currently stock a wide range of enrichment toys 🧠🦴

Enrichment enables pets to explore and use their natural instincts. Enrichment activities can prevent boredom, build confidence, and teach a variety of skills such as problem-solving, searching and agility. It allows them to sniff and chew appropriately. Plus, it’s the ideal way to manage their energy, encouraging calmer behaviour and helping them to learn good habits.

Why not try some pet enrichment this weekend?

🐾Food-based enrichment
There are several options. You could spread food on the textured surface of a ‘lick mat’ for your dog to enjoy calmly. Alternatively, you could get them a puzzle feeder. How about a rubber one that you pre-fill and chill to make it last longer?

Lickimat suggestions:
🧠Natural peanut butter (dog favorite)
🧠Mashed banana
🧠Plain yogurt
🧠Crushed treat or kibble mixed with water or broth
🧠Fish (Salmon, Tuna in spring water)
🧠Minced or pureed broccoli
🧠Carrots
🧠Sweet potato puree

🐾Scent-based enrichment
Smell is very important to our dogs. Sniffing is a natural behaviour and is a key way our dogs gain information about their environment.
On walks, allow your dog plenty of opportunity and time to sniff. Make sure you go to different places and mix up the route that you take. This will give them new experiences and of course, new smells.
Back at home, you could buy dog-safe plants and herbs for them to smell. Some plants are toxic to dogs, so be very careful to avoid these.

🐾 Games with toys
Playing games with toys is beneficial to your pup physically as well as mentally. It also helps to build their confidence and will help to strengthen the bond between the two of you. Make sure you rotate your dog’s toys weekly. This will keep them excited and interested in them. Let your pup win games. Your dog will enjoy it if you take it in turns and both win a few games each.

🤍 Steven the Seagull 🤍
This juvenile Herring Gull was brought into us today by a member of the public, found with a suspected wing injury. One of our vets and vet nurses got to work sedating him to take X-rays of his wings. 🪽
As you may be able to spot on the X-ray, his larger bone in his wing called the Ulna is badly damaged likely due to trauma. Hopefully with some medication and rest he may be able to recover. 🦴
If you find any injured wildlife, please call the practice before bringing it down, depending on the symptoms or situation we may recommend leaving them alone and monitoring, bringing them in, or contacting a local wildlife rescue. 🦆
We are happy to triage and provide first aid care but may ultimately send them to a local wildlife rescue for ongoing treatment or rehabilitation ❤️‍🩹
