Urgent notice
To say it’s been a difficult week here at the Sanctuary is an understatement.
Around 10 days ago we took in 6 cats and the following morning one of them seemed quiet so she was taken to the vets where she had a slightly high temperature and she was given medication for this. The following day she was still not herself so she was taken in for bloods to be run however sadly after a couple of hours she passed away at the vets very suddenly and unexpectedly. Her bloods were run and she tested positive for a contagious virus.
In the days since we have been closed to the public and sadly the majority of the cats siblings she arrived with have also passed away, testing positive to this awful virus of which there is currently no cure for.
Whilst no other cats outside this family have tested positive or shown symptoms we are taking the action to CLOSE immediately to the public and to volunteers.
We are unable to allow any reserved cats or kittens to leave the premises or any new intakes to enter the premises until we have come off lockdown.
The incubation period for this virus is 3-7 days usually however we expect to close for at least the next 2 weeks as a minimum to ensure everyone’s safety.
There have been lots of tears here at the sanctuary this week, it’s awful thinking that any of the cats here may be at risk to something so awful but we have to air on the side of caution and we are taking every possible step we can to ensure the safety of the rest of our wonderful babies.
We need your help now more than ever. With no cats being able to leave and all open days suspended immediately we have very low funds coming in to the sanctuary but our babies here need help more than ever!
If you able to donate we would really appreciate it and it would go such a long way to help the sanctuary make it through this challenging time!

There will also be an Amazon wish list going up later today if you’re able to help we’d hugely appreciate it!
We will continue to keep everyone updated on our lovely babies and situation here at the sanctuary and we know that with your support and the incredible team we have here, that we’ll make it through this awful time.
Thank you
Tina❤️
Edit: A few people have asked what the virus is, I apologise I thought I’d put it in above but I haven’t, it’s panleukopenia. We’ll do a full video talking about the potential symptoms later on today for you all. The virus is not airborne, it’s usually only passed through direct contact between cats or through faeces, whilst it’s not infectious to people it can be carried on people’s footwear and clothing. Symptoms vary from adult cats just seeming a little quiet or potentially vomiting and diahorrea to sudden death which sadly is the only symptom we have experienced at this stage.
We’ll be putting more information out later today.
Thank you!
