Quick outing to the dog show at wardens trust with Dudley (staying for training) met clients and friends. Dudley overwhelmed for the first 10 minutes, I kept his mind busy by repeating short recalls and other easy close exercises, this made the strange environment feel familiar by familiar responses. After 10 minutes he started relaxing and enjoying the trip! Moose came along for the fun. Great to Basil and Pooky!

One of the most misunderstood parts of puppy training is socialisation. For many owners, socialisation becomes a checklist of experiences something like this:· Meet lots of dogs.· Meet lots of people.· Visit busy places.· Let everyone say hello.· Let every dog have a sniff.· Let the puppy sniff...

“He’d never do that…”
Until one day, he does.
Most dogs don’t set out to cause harm.
They simply follow instinct in a moment where instinct becomes louder than us.
And when that moment happens around livestock…
the consequences can be far greater than people realise.
A chase is enough.
No contact needed.
Just fear alone can cause injury, loss, and real distress.
The law has now changed under the Dogs (Protection of Livestock) Act 1953 Amendment 2025 —
but this isn’t just about rules.
It’s about understanding our dogs more deeply…
and taking quiet responsibility for the world they move through.
If you’ve ever thought “my dog wouldn’t…”
this is something you need to read.

Part 1 — The Jack Russell Who Lost a Leg
Two years ago, a young Jack Russell became obsessed with his front foot.
Staring.
Licking.
Chewing.
Injuring himself.
Medication didn’t stop it.
His foot was amputated.
The behaviour stopped.
Recently, he began obsessing over his remaining front foot.
The vet warned: if this continues, he may not survive it.
This time I got there fast.
If you want to understand behaviour before it reaches crisis point, follow along — or explore the Online Puppy Masterclass to build strong foundations early.

What really causes a dog to bite?
Reposted from Battersea
Dog bite incidents requiring hospital treatment continue to rise. Despite recent legislative changes, long-standing evidence shows that focusing on specific breeds alone does not address the underlying causes of dangerous dog behaviour. Any dog has the capacity to bite, and understanding why this happens is key to improving safety for both people and dogs.
That’s why Battersea is funding new research in partnership with Anglia Ruskin University to better understand the scale of the issue and the factors that lead dogs to bite. With limited data currently available, this research aims to fill an important evidence gap and support more effective, welfare-led solutions.
As part of the study, researchers have launched an online questionnaire and are seeking views from dog owners who have experienced dog control problems, as well as people who have been involved in dangerous dog incidents.
If this applies to you and you’d like to help improve safety around dogs, we’d really value your participation: https://bit.ly/3OdjliZ
