Equestrian gods and goddesses…

We made it.
The last day of January.
A month that felt approximately 3100 days long
and 87% damp, 10% frozen and 3% cold.

So how are we celebrating?

Mud spa?
(Exfoliating. Natural. Free.)

A good old roll in the hay?
(Accidental or intentional .... no judgement.)

Splashing dramatically through puddles
like you’re auditioning for a slow-motion advert
called “Why Are My Socks Like This?”

Or…
are we finally opening that bottle of wine
Susan bought you four Christmases ago
that’s been ageing beautifully
next to the spare baler twine and wormer?

Maybe celebration looks like:

getting through the day without swearing at the weather

not buying another rug

standing at the gate just watching them

or going home before it’s dark (a rare and sacred act)

However you mark it
quietly, chaotically, soggily, or with a large glass in hand
you survived January.

And honestly…
that deserves a medal.
Or at least a hot shower and clean socks.

How are you celebrating? 🍷🐎💫

Horse people: on duty, as always. We love our horses—and it’s just what we do. 🐎

To love a horse…

…is to put their welfare before your wants.
Before timelines.
Before expectations.
Before how it looks to anyone else.

It’s recognising that a “good day” isn’t defined by outlines or results,
but by relaxation, understanding, and trust.

To love a horse is to listen when they say no,
to notice the small signs of discomfort before they become big ones,
and to be willing to change your plans for their wellbeing.

It’s choosing rest when they need rest.
Rebuilding when they’re unsure.
Slowing down when the world tells you to push on.

It’s accepting that horses are not machines,
not tools for success,
not there to carry our pressure or prove our worth.

To love a horse is to meet them where they are physically, emotionally, mentally,
and to value a calm nervous system as much as any achievement.

Welfare isn’t the soft option.
It’s the foundation.

And loving a horse means protecting that ....
