Clark's Little Ark Sanquhar

Clark's Little Ark Sanquhar A result of observing the enjoyment that animals brought to people, Being near the town, people from the local communities began to visit the animals.

Clark's Little Ark began evolving unintentionally in December 2012,
A small piece of land at the former brickworks in Sanquhar, became home to my miniature Shetland ponies and donkeys. Watching the enjoyment shared between humans and animals was so rewarding and the animal family began to grow! In May 2013 ,sadness and heartbreak struck our family, when our beloved son Clark passed away. Although

Clark had many "labels" of disability, he was a happy, loving boy who loved being around happy, smiling people. Clark's Little Ark was named in his memory. We know he would approve of all the smiles that take place at the Ark. The Ark has also helped our family deal with our grief, even on the most difficult days. We have been so lucky receiving support from the local communities and beyond, to help keep Clark's Little Ark free and accessible to all ages and abilities. We are indebted to THE FRIENDS (AND WEE FRIENDS) OF CLARK'S LITTLE ARK, who volunteer their own time to arrange meetings, fundraise, organise open days and manage all donations, bank accounts and paper work. This enables everyone to see where and when their kind donations are being used. We are extremely grateful to everyone who supports Clark's Little Ark in any way at all and hope the smiles continue for many years to come. PLEASE NOTE - Clark's Little Ark can be found at the Old Brickworks. It is situated on the left hand side of the road, just before the civic amenity site, St Mary's Street Sanquhar DG4 6BS. There is very limited parking at the Ark and if specialist access is required please contact Alison Shankly on 07789394138, 0165950123 or email [email protected]
As far as possible, arrangements will be made to meet your needs. Hand cleanser is available at the gate to the yard. For those who don't have mobility problems, parking is usually available at Sanquhar Station, which is nearby.. The Ark is FREE to all visitors - all we ask for payment is a smile.

** ••••SINCE COVID 19 THE FOLLOWING CAN CHANGE DAILY -
( Please feel free to go down the track and enjoy spending time with the animals. If Alison or any the Friend's of Clark's Little Ark are around there will be an opportunity to interact with some of the animals. However, in the interest of Health and Safety, no one is allowed in beside any of the animals unsupervised. If the green gate at the top is unchained, visitors can walk up the newly fenced track (funded by a grant from PROPEL) up to a picnic bench in the top field. The animals will be in paddocks at the side. If the yard gate at the bottom is not chained, it will be possible to enter and visit the animals that may be in the stables, as well as Percy the pig. PLEASE TO NOT PUT YOUR HANDS NEAR PERCY, AS HE THINKS MOST THINGS ARE FOR EATING! If any the gates are chained it means ANIMALS WILL BE LOOSE, SO PLEASE DO NOT ENTER. )****

We hope you enjoy your visit and please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions. The animals will update their news on here :-)
Please allow for their spelling mistakes!! Thank you Alison and Ian Shankly and family (human and animal)

We brought Fudge in today,as he was a bit stressed with a delivery lorry going past.
Biffy, on the other hand was excited, because when the lorry passed,it lowered some of the overhanging branches of the tree and he got an extra snack!
Back in his stable, Fudge was puzzled by a strange black shape in the corner. Looks like he has feathered house mates for a few days!
Thanks to Nisa for £31.53 from the collecting tin.
Thanks also to Lea for all the rabbit food and equipment she donated, after her rabbit sadly passed away.

Just over a week ago everyone was inside because of the cold, wet weather. Over the last few days everyone has been enjoying some sunshine.
But now we have to make sure they all have plenty shade available and we have to be careful the sheep don’t get sunburnt without their wool!
One extreme to the other.

There has been lots of building work going on in Biffy’s stable.
A whole row of new houses have been built, new tenants moved in and now babies have arrived.
Biffy was pleased to get outside for some peace and quiet today because the babies were shouting for food.
Jackdaws can be so noisy!
Meanwhile, Benny enjoyed waiter service and Ant was on look out duty.
Jack held onto Paddy while Stuart the farrier trimmed their feet and then they caught up with Dotty and enjoyed lunch together.

Yesterday it was clean sheep.
Today we have a clean yard ( and Percy’s gate)
Thanks to Scott and Connor from S.Milne exterior cleaning services.
It looks like Fudge enjoyed the attention too 😊
When Jimmy came on his usual morning visit, he hung his opened rucksack up, so that it was out the way of the boys setting up their equipment.
Five minutes later and the bag was no where to be seen.
Then we saw Jimmy emerging from Benny’s house.
Benny the rascal, had lifted the bag off the hook, dragged it into his stable and stole the carrots! 🙈

Jeff the sheep should have been sheared earlier but unfortunately the shearer was injured and unable to do him.
It was a worry because he was needing done and he seems to be more difficult to do than the others.
But thanks to Fleece Unlimited: Loomin' Fab-ewe-Lous for putting us in touch with Rachel Brett the worry is over.
Rachel came today and sheared Jeff Eck and Fudge.
She was kind, quick, amazing to watch and the boys have been transformed 😊
With the weather being so cold and miserable, they will stay inside until their wool grows a bit. And if the weather doesn’t improve, our human might be seen with a woolly coat on!
Watch this space to see what happens to the wool …

It’s not just humans that like to make a fuss of Dotty the donkey 😊

Thanks to unpaid work Dumfries for making and delivering a lovely new duck house, to Nik and Jennifer for all their help with the animals and putting up netting along the fences. As you can see the bed and breakfast rabbits still have access though😊
It’s been lovely having lots of visitors and thanks for all the donations and treats.
Thanks also to Abbie for drawing us a lovely picture of the animals, to put up in the portacabin.
Some days it’s nice to do what the plaque on the bench says and just enjoy a cup or two 😊
