Yet for so many pets, we’ve somehow normalised a final car journey, a waiting room, unfamiliar smells, and a clinical environment, even when home may be an option.
This is never a criticism of veterinary practices. We deeply value vets, nurses, and the incredible care they provide every single day. Clinics save lives, relieve suffering, and support families through some of the hardest moments imaginable.
But when the time comes to say goodbye, it’s worth gently asking a different question:
If our pets could choose, where would they want to be?
Curled up on their favourite sofa.
In the garden they love.
Hearing familiar voices.
Surrounded by the people, scents, sounds, and comforts they’ve known their whole life.
For many families, home euthanasia offers exactly that. A quieter, calmer goodbye, with no stressful journey and no unfamiliar environment during those final moments.
We can’t change the sadness of losing them.
But we can sometimes change the setting in which goodbye happens. ❤️
