Island Pet Parties

Island Pet Parties Fun Interactivity and Education on a diverse range of species, promoting best practices and welfare.

Apparently on the Telly (BBC) tonight too! Didn’t I sound posh!?

Honestly though, correct education before inviting a new animal to your household is so, so important. It is the basis in which we took over Bishes, and will very soon continue with not just the Education Floor being called Terraria & Aquaria, but the whole business will soon become one and the same.

We’ve got some amazing Pet Shops on our little Island now, with some of the best people with lots of information at the helm. Guernsey will soon become the best place for animals and care if we keep educating ourselves and reach out when we need help.

Always here to help.

Update!

Due to our recent merger, we are finding it a little difficult to keep up with 3 or 4 different inboxes.

For all party bookings, it would really help us if you could either call the shop (Bishes at Oatlands) on 01481 249733 or pop in and make your booking at the counter.

I’ve just managed to log into the Island Pets inbox and am a bit overwhelmed with all the messages/booking requests from you lovely people.

Replying to everyone now (rock and roll Friday nights) but it really would help to speed your future questions or bookings along if you could call the shop or pop in 🙏

My mobile is often being eaten by one animal or another, so altogether, that, and myself, are pretty hopeless!

Good Evening, Pet Lovers!!

We've been a bit quiet recently, haven't we?!

Well here's an update! We haven't gone anywhere! Well...not in 'that' sense anyway! Some of you may be aware that on 1st December we merged with Bishes - since that date, we have been furiously peddling to get Island Pets, Bishes AND Second Chance Saddlery all in one place.

Our original plan was to be able to provide a seated venue to host your parties and educational sittings, which is very slowly going ahead, on the first floor of Bishes. As I'm sure you can appreciate though, it is taking a long time to get things how we want. We have a lot still to change within the daily operation of the main shop, as well as create our hosting space and a good retail area for our Saddlery too, all in keeping with Island Pets main mission of promoting best Animal Welfare and Husbandry practices. It's a challenging task but you guys and your support has been nothing but phenomenal! Thank you!

An Apology - with our new challenges to bring an exceptional Specialist Store and Experience Centre to you, I have been terribly slow at tending to booking and enquiry messages etc. I promise I am going through messages and will be replying to all of you over the next few days.

Should you have an urgent query or booking enquiry, it is probably best to call us on the shop line - 01481 249733, where either myself (Krissi) or AJ can help in the first instance.

In the meantime, why don't you pop in to Bishes to see just 'some' of the Island Pets animals already taking up residency in the building. We have a large amount more animals joining us over the coming weeks, which will make hostings SO much easier.

We will also be bringing to you a range of events and Educational evenings - announcements of those will follow soon!

Bishes / Island Pets opening hours are as follows:

Monday to Saturday 9-5
Sundays 11-5

Take Care and see you all soon!

We’ve had an incredibly busy but productive day today!

Two parties this morning, both with the most wonderful, interactive children, Piggies, Bunnies, Beardies, Snakes and Mini Beasts!

🙃Don’t forget that now you can pop in to Bishes Fishes to make your booking and talk through the options that you would like. We are open Monday to Saturday, 9 till 5 and Sunday 11 till 5. 🙃

How many of you were lucky enough to pop in to Bishes today to meet Hilary, the Bearded Dragon?! She stopped by for a brief rest on her way home today, and definitely caused a flurry of new fans with her beautiful Beardie presence! 🥰

✨We will also soon be offering ‘drop in’ handling sessions when all our Team has relocated fully to Bishes. ✨

Curious? Pop in and have a chat! We’ve a lot to offer and loads more coming soon!

Team Piggles will be first to take up permanent residence at our new home!

Can anyone remember all the Piggy’s names?

NEWS!

As many of you are aware, we have been looking for quite some time for somewhere to call home.

Well, we found somewhere, and can finally share it with you! And amongst many things we plan to bring to you for 2024, the first we can present, is a perfect venue to host your Pet Parties and Educational Sittings!

No more being turned away from your chosen venue as animals aren't allowed, or it's fully booked. We can cater for most sized parties, with the added advantage of having the amazing Oaty and Joeys, right next door to complete your party!

All sorts of packages will be available in 2024 in addition to what we provide and we can't wait to see you!

Bookings for Island Pet Parties in-house are available from 4th December so pop us a message if you would like to make your booking! No extra charges for venue hire either! What's not to love! :D

With news of the incoming storm, please, if you can, bring any furries you own that are normally housed outdoors, inside, just for a couple of days.

It’s going to be a rough one and they all deserve to feel safe and secure in what will be quite a scary time for them. They don’t read the news or understand why everything will be flying around, around them. Or god forbid, why their houses are moving.

We might get lucky and not get hit by it, but is it worth the risk?

Even if they are in traveling boxes with plentiful greens, hay and water - it is safer than leaving them out in unusually bad elements. Just while the storm passes.

What a pleasurable experience taking Snakes, Bearded Dragons, Mini Beasts, Spiders, Guinea Piggies and Bunnies to Monkey Puzzle Pre School today!

I get so much pleasure when all our guests listen so attentively to their pre contact safety talks. It’s so important to make every aspect of their experience engaging, not just the points where they are interactive with the animals.

Our staff Team is only small, but very effective. It has taken a little practice to get us where we want us to be, and I couldn’t be prouder of how the Team works together. Whilst our main goal and mission as always is to promote best animal welfare, we also want to ensure that all of our guests, old and young, get the most out of their experience.

Todays highlight has been around butt nuggets and dinosaurs!

We love little people, and we try our best to work around their imaginations to give them the best experiences possible.

Thank you for having us again Monkey Puzzle! Such a wonderful pre school with such happy children! 🥰

We’ve had a really busy weekend with most of the animal Team! One more session a little later today and everyone (humans and animals alike) can have a well earned rest!

In the meantime, Beautiful Bella wants to spread her smiles to everyone.

Isn’t she a lovely girl?! Snakes aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, I know (keep scrolling if they make your hair stand on end!) but we feel very lucky to have this little lady especially. Well, I say little, but she’s not really. She’s quite big. She is a Boa Constrictor and measures in at just over 9ft long.

Bella won’t be seen at any of our parties at present, mainly due to her size. We want her to stay in the conditions that she is comfortable with, and that is much harder for us to maintain particularly now the winter weather is coming in. All snakes require a constant monitored temperature and humidity, and a snake of Bella’s size requires very careful handling. She is a semi arboreal snake, meaning she likes to climb and has a very full body weight, so when she is lifted, weight needs to be distributed correctly so she doesn’t experience any damage to her spine.

It’s quite common for a snake of this species to have fractures to their spine, and it’s our job to make sure that anyone who wants to embark in either handling or ownership of these gorgeous creatures are educated in the best practices possible to maintain the best outcome for both them and their snake.

Anyway.. Hi Bells! You mischievous monkey! 🥰

Our little reptile Team is just back and tucked into bed after an evening Halloween themed sitting. We were really pleased at how lovely this sitting was, and how well the children responded (even though they were very excited) to our instructions and animal facts throughout the sitting.

Today we learned lots of info on where a Central Bearded Dragon comes from, how it uses its third eye, what kind of food it eats, how to properly handle a mischievous corn snake and what a morio worm looks and feels like when it goes into pupae stage.

Every animal we bring to a sitting has a huge amount of info behind its care and well being, and whilst it’s fun to have these animals, it’s more fun to be able to give it back afterwards and not worry about the constant time and maintenance they require. That’s what we are here for 🙂

We can’t wait to meet more of you over the weekend at the many sittings we have booked!

Over the next three days we will be out and about with Bearded Dragons, Snakes, Mini Beasts, Guinea Pigs, Rabbits AND Bambi the Pony! They will all be wanting a well earned rest for the rest of the week! 🥰
