The horses have all been having their routine dentistry this week!
Our vet lightly sedates them all for comfort and then does a full examination, removing any stuck food and rasping away any sharp edges. This keeps the horses comfortable in both their leisure time (eating mostly π) and their ridden work. It also identifies any problems before they cause the horse pain, yes horses do need fillings from time to time!! A bespoke plan is made for each horse depending on what is found, some horses teeth are checked every 3 months, some go 6 months and some are fine for 9 months.
Fun fact, did you know we can tell a horses age by looking at their teeth?! As they age, the surface shape of the tooth changes, the angle changes, certain teeth and hooks only appear at specific ages and a dark coloured stripe (the galvaynes groove) grows down the outside edge of the horses incisor teeth indicating age too π
