NEW YOUNG PUPPY CLASS

Due to demand, I’m excited to be launching an additional Young Puppy Class every Wednesday at 6pm throughout the summer at the 4 Paws Pet Care Training Field near Sticker.

This class is suitable for puppies up to 6 months of age and focuses on building confidence, social skills, and the foundations of good behaviour in a safe, controlled environment.

Many people think puppy socialisation simply means letting puppies play together, but good socialisation is really about helping your puppy learn that the world is a safe and positive place. We work on confidence around new people, dogs, sights, sounds and environments, while also introducing useful life skills that will help you as your puppy grows.

Whether you’ve just brought your puppy home or you’re looking to give them the best possible start, this class is designed to help set them up for success.

£10 per session
Booking is required in advance via the St Austell Dog Care website.

Spaces are limited, so please book early if you’d like to join us.

As some of you will know I’ve been very excited to give Mantrailing (finding people with dogs using scent) a go!
Wilma and I completed the introduction workshop and we both had the best time! Wilma absolutely loved it, she was in her element! Couldn’t recommend it enough if you want to try a dog sport. All structured around the dogs, no pressure- just fun 👍
I’ve been working with Wilma a long time, been a dog trainer a long time- there’s always room to try new things, learn new skills- and your dog will always surprise you with what they show you they already know how to do when you use that nose!
Well done Wilmy! Thank you Hotdogs K9

Awesome morning at our training centre in Newquay introducing 4 Super Team to the world of Mantrailing 🤩Well done all 🐶 Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did 👍🏼 looking forward to seeing you progress🐶❤️🐾

Not every collie is destined for the sheep field.

This lovely girl started life as a working dog, but herding wasn’t her thing. Now she’s in a home for the very first time… and everything is new. The toaster. Doorways. Sleeping indoors. Even just moving from room to room.

When dogs are rehomed, especially from working backgrounds, the biggest priority isn’t training. It’s safety.

The first few weeks should be about helping them feel secure enough to explore, to be curious, and to slowly learn that this new world is a safe one.

That means:
• Taking things at the dog’s pace
• Letting them watch and process without pressure
• Keeping walks slow, calm, and exploratory
• Using tools like a harness and long line so they can investigate safely
• Prioritising decompression over “exercise”

Think of your walks less like a workout… and more like a gentle introduction to the world.

Training can come later. Confidence comes first.

Wilf is great at playing with other dogs, and finds it hard to control his emotions when they are around.
We have been working on impulse control, to allow his owners to practise good recall around serious distractions.
If you want to train recall around other dogs, focus on managing the environment, controlling your distance and putting your dog in the right situation to prevent frustration and set them up for success.
If you want help with that process, you know where I am 😁

Why doesn’t NO! Seem to work in your dog?! There is much disagreement in the dog training about this- and don’t get me wrong- I’m not going to tell you that you can’t ever say no to your dog! Believe me- I’ve been there!
However, it has been proven to be far more effective to tell a dog what to do, instead of try and explain to them what not to do.. especially when they often don’t even understand what owners mean by no anyway!
Let me know your thoughts in this below 😬😝

So great to see these faces again this week, the greetings and the snowy mooching have been the best! Didn’t get pictures of everybody as yesterday was a no picture zone due to rain. But what a wonderful pack I have!
