Handstripping vs Clipping 🐶✂️

After TONS and TONS of comments on our viral video of Ruby being handstripped, we thought we’d show you the difference between Ruby’s Border Terrier coat and Betty’s clipped coat 👀

🖐️ Ruby’s handstripped coat keeps its natural colour, texture and water-resistant properties. It maintains the harsh, weatherproof outer coat that a Border Terrier is naturally meant to have.

✂️ Betty’s clipped coat is much softer, duller and loses much of that natural weatherproof quality because the coat is cut rather than having the dead outer coat removed.

And no, Ruby isn’t having her fur “ripped out”! 😂 Handstripping removes the dead outer coat when it’s ready to come out, leaving the healthy coat underneath.

Hopefully this helps explain why handstripping is so important for maintaining a Border Terrier’s traditional coat! 🐾❤️

A bittersweet goodbye to Ruby & Enzo… for now! 🥹🐾💕

Our beautiful Ruby the Cesky Terrier and Enzo the Schnauzer have had their final groom with us before their family moves away. 🥹

We’re going to miss these two so much! Their cheeky characters, funny personalities and whacky hairstyles have brought so much fun to the salon. ✂️😂

And we have to say a huge thank you to their mum for always giving us the creative freedom to have fun with their grooms — especially Enzo and his ever-changing looks! 😂✨

It’s always sad when lovely clients move away, but we’re so grateful to have been part of their grooming journey. ❤️

Good luck in your new adventure, Ruby & Enzo! We’ll miss you both terribly — and we hope your new groomer appreciates just how fabulous (and slightly bonkers!) you two are! 🥹🐾💕

Beautiful Mabel the Poodle with that iconic Poodle face! 🐩🤍✨

There’s something so timeless about a classic Poodle trim — and Mabel is absolutely rocking it! 🐾✂️

But did you know the traditional Poodle look actually has a fascinating history?

Poodles were originally bred as water retrievers, particularly for retrieving waterfowl. Their dense, curly coat offered protection from cold water, but having a full coat everywhere could make swimming more difficult.

The traditional clipped style was designed to give them the best of both worlds: protecting important areas of the body while keeping other areas lighter for movement in the water. The pom-poms left around the joints and chest helped protect areas such as the joints and vital organs from the cold.

Over time, those practical working clips became the elaborate and iconic Poodle styles we recognise today. 🐩✨

So that fabulous Poodle face isn’t just about looking fancy — it’s part of a breed with a fascinating working history! 🤍

Milo, Belle & Raven — our gorgeous Great Danes — came in for a bath and deshed! 🛁✨

They had a lovely freshen-up, with plenty of loose coat removed, leaving them clean, shiny, and feeling their best. 🐶💕

And honestly… it’s quite funny watching someone who isn’t even 5ft tall trying to walk THREE Great Danes back to their owners! 🤣 I may be small, but apparently I’m still in charge! 😂

They were all absolute superstars and such a pleasure to have in the salon. 💕
