๐Ÿ–คThere are many ways to measure success, but for us, seeing our dogs living active, fulfilled lives with the people who love them is what matters most.๐Ÿค

We recently received this wonderful update from Siobhan about Daisy and Bramble, whose enthusiasm for agility is matched only by their determination. From impressive performances in the DARL finals to Daisy proving that age is no barrier to having fun, their story made everyone here smile.

Here's what Siobhan had to say:

Hello,

I just wanted to let you know about Daisy and Bramble's latest achievements.

This weekend they were both in the dog agility rescue league (DARL) finals.

Bramble was in the intermediate combined grades 5-7, against lots of much more experienced dogs (she is only 3 and grade 5), and she had a lovely clear 2nd place in the jumping round. She ended up 4th overall, which is very respectable.

As much as I am proud of Bramble, Daisy was the superstar. She is now 12 so competes in veteran classes which means she can jump lower jumps (she would still jump full height if I let her though, she doesn't know she is 12). She was clear in both finals rounds for 2nd and 3rd, and was 1st when the results from both rounds were combined so won overall.

Although the rosettes and prizes are obviously very nice, I care much more that they are happy. Daisy continuously barks excitedly in the queue because she wants it to be her turn, and then barks a bit while she is having her turn. She doesn't bark at anything at all anywhere else. Even if she has to eventually jump tiny jumps/poles on the floor I plan on letting her continue for as long as she wants to play and at the moment she very much still wants to play.

I am grateful that you let us bring both these girls home (9 years between adoption days). They are both fantastic dogs.

Thanks,
Siobhan

๐Ÿ–คSix months after finding her new home with Tara, Daisy is thriving. From losing weight and enjoying long countryside walks to showing off her impressive hedgehog-rescue skills, it's clear this special girl is living her best life. Most importantly, she is loved, happy, and exactly where she belongs.๐Ÿ–ค

"Hi everyone at BCT!

A six month update from Daisy (Rosie).

Six months ago, I found a new home. I will admit to being a bit of a chunky girl, but my new mum didn't mind as she said she's a bit chunky too and we can lose weight together.

I have lost 4kg so far and I can now walk for up to 2 hours. I don't love running too much, but will always run back to mum when I've gone a bit too far away for my liking. She calls me a good girl, except when I eat pigeon poo and then she thinks I'm being unladylike.

I've learned a few new tricks, but my favourite thing is when mum hides my breakfast and dinner around the house and the garden. My favourite toy is a large ball that I can herd and it goes on car journeys with me so I can play on our countryside walks.

I love everybody and mum lets me pet all the humans I want. Everyone calls me gorgeous and I make them happy when I wag my tail and sit nicely for pets.

Last week I found a hedgehog which was trapped in a rain gutter. Mum saved him and we went to visit a nice man who makes them better. The hedgehog was released a few days later and apparently if I hadn't sat and sniffed for a long time and ignored mum to come inside, the hedgehog would not be alive. I had an extra special treat that day.

I am very happy in my new home and I love my mum. She says to tell you thank you for allowing her to give me a home. She hopes my previous home will be glad that I found another loving home and if they see this, she wants to thank them for raising me such a loving and a very good girl ๐Ÿฅฐ"

Last month, on National Rescue Dog Day, we received a message from Phil that reminded us just how much of a difference one person can make.

For the past 39 years, Phil has been giving rescue dogs a loving home, and during that time he has rescued some very lucky dogs. His commitment to opening his home and heart to dogs in need is something truly worth celebrating, and we're incredibly grateful for his support over the years.

As we share Phil's story, we'd also like to thank all of our followers and supporters. Every adoption, donation, share and kind word helps rescue dogs find the loving homes they deserve. You are all part of making these happy endings possible.

Thank you Phil, and anyone else who gives rescue dogs a second chance, and thank you to everyone who continues to support our mission.

"A big thank you to the Border Collie Trust. We first visited, just to look, on Sunday 5th August 2001. There was no connection with any of the dogs we selected to walk when a man turned up to surrender a dog and there was immediate eye contact. That was Megan, a 5 year old. Megan never even went in the kennels, you allowed us to take her home that day. Here is a very significant picture taken on Buckstone Moor in Yorkshire. Little did we realise when she died naturally on 14.06.2012 that on Sunday 17.06.2012 we would end up at a former farmhouse below the rock on which she posed to adopt Sam from West Yorkshire Dog Rescue, who was born in buildings in the background off Megan's right shoulder.

On Friday 10th May 2024 we had to say goodbye to Sam. Sunday 12th May 2024 was our 2nd visit to the Border Collie Trust. Listed on the website was Sam (2) a dog with no history from Ireland, aged between 7 and 9. We were processed in under an hour. Sam came pre-programmed, he walked in the house and settled on my seat on the settee. We would love to know Sam (2)'s back story, his eyesight, hearing and smell are unbelievable. Prior to Megan, we adopted our first rescue a Collie Cross puppy Bonnie in June 1987 from Chaddesley Corbett Rescue. Our lives have been enriched by 39 years of rescue dogs."

โค๏ธ One Year On... โค๏ธ

There is nothing more rewarding than hearing how our rescue dogs are getting on in their new homes, especially those who arrived with little confidence in the world around them.

๐Ÿ–คA year ago, little Minnie left Border Collie Trust to begin a new life with Fiona and Dean in Northumberland. Minnie, now known as Jessie, came into our care alongside her mother, sister and grandmother and was an incredibly nervous, shut-down little dog who found trusting people very difficult.

Twelve months later, we received this wonderful update from her family, and we just had to share it with you. Stories like Jessie's are only possible because of the patience, love and dedication of adopters who are willing to give a frightened dog the time they need to blossom. You only need to look at the before and after photos to see the transformation.๐Ÿฅฐ

Grab a tissue and enjoy Jessie's story...

"Hello all at BCTGB

A year with this one ..... Little Minnie, now Jessie.

When we met Jessie, she was so shut down. She was such a poor little soul who had been taken in by BCTGB along with her sister, mother, and grandmother.
She was so nervous and skinny with eyes that looked so frightened and scared. We spent a long time with her in one of the pens trying to convince her that coming to live with us would be a good thing.

She met our other two beautiful border collies, Indie sadly no longer with us and Charlie. That was the only time her tail wagged, but just a little. We decided to bring her home with us. The journey was long as we live in beautiful Northumberland and she travelled well although clearly anxious. The arrival home was difficult. She was scared, confused, and decided the best place to hide was behind the TV nearly knocking it over in the process. It took lots of gentle persuasion for her to begin to trust us and for her to let us touch her.

Fast forward a year and what a change! Jessie is such a cheeky little dog. She now can't get enough cuddles, fuss, and attention. She is still incredibly nervous around other people and doesn't like any visitors coming to the house.

The last year has been quite tough as she hasn't been easy to work with, but we are getting there. She loves being up in the hills and mountains having conquered a few Wainwrights but her favourite thing of all is her daily run on the beach and chasing gulls in the sea!

Thank you so much for letting her come and live with us and being a great playmate for Charlie (Big Sam ex BCTGB) although he's not too happy as she takes all his balls away from him!

Jessie is meeting up with her Grandmother (now called Jess) in a couple of weeks. It would be great to know how her Mum and sister who I think was called Matilda are getting on.

Keep up all your excellent work
Regards
Fiona, Dean, Charlie and Jessie

๐Ÿšคโค๏ธ From Rescue Dog to Narrowboat Companion โค๏ธ๐Ÿšค

When we rehome a dog, we never quite know where life's adventures will take them. Some find happiness curled up on the sofa, others become mountain hikers, beach explorers, or agility stars.

Hollie has taken a rather unique path... she's become a seasoned narrowboat dog!

We recently received this wonderful update from Alison and Deryck, who adopted Hollie a year ago. From learning how to behave around locks and towpaths to enjoying life on the water and mastering her recall, Hollie has embraced her new lifestyle with enthusiasm.

Stories like this remind us that every dog deserves a second chance and that the right home can help them truly flourish.

Here's Hollie's update in her family's own words...

"Dear All,
Thank you for the lovely birthday card you sent to Hollie for her 1st birthday with us.

Sorry for late reply but we have been away for a few weeks on our narrow boat
Hollie is the perfect boating dog now and knows how to behave around locks, and leaving ducks etc alone. She loves long walks on tow paths and meeting other walkers, with or without dogs.

However when walking in wooded areas I have to watch her carefully as she has a high prey drive for rabbits and squirrels. She always comes back when called ....not always as quick as I would like. When she appears itโ€™s almost like she is smiling and โ€œhere I am โ€œand off she goes again. Just gorgeous!

When we are home we regularly walk along the King Charles 111 coastal path off lead ..It's fenced on both sides and very safe .....but we share it with joggers, cyclists, and pedestrians. Hollie is fabulous now when called back to me and sits by my side when meeting them. Recently she has been coming back to me without commands .....sheโ€™s clever.

Thank you again for letting us adopt her.

She is an absolute blessing .
Keep up the good work with the collies ,
Regards
Alison & Deryck xx

Update - thank you all for your interest in Rosie, we're delighted to say that she's now been reserved for someone to meet ๐Ÿคž

Meet Rosie โค๏ธ

Now, before the Border Collie purists point it out, yes, Rosie isn't quite a full collie! She's a beautiful 1-year-old Lab x Collie, which means she comes with all the brains of a collie and a generous helping of Labrador sweetness thrown in for good measure.

Rosie came into our care from another rescue after her owners sadly became unable to care for her due to their own health issues. Through no fault of her own, she has found herself looking for a fresh start.

Life can feel a little overwhelming for Rosie at times. We think she may have missed out on some early socialisation, so many everyday experiences still seem new to her. She's a gentle girl who can be a little shy when meeting new people, but give her a little patience, space, and understanding, and she soon begins to show her lovely nature.

Rosie would love a calm home where she can continue to build her confidence at her own pace. A quieter household without young children or a constant stream of visitors would suit her best. She's also still learning that other dogs aren't something to worry about, so she'd benefit from spending time with calm, friendly canine companions.

Despite her worries, Rosie is a wonderfully easy house guest. She's clean and quiet in her kennel and travelled beautifully on a journey of several hours to reach us.

What Rosie needs most is someone willing to see past her nerves and help her discover that the world isn't such a scary place after all. In return, you'll gain a loyal companion who will blossom with kindness, patience, and love.

Could you be the person to show Rosie that her best days are still ahead of her? ๐Ÿพ
