Hello!

Better Rides July is officially over!

And because quite a lot of you are new here, I thought I should probably actually introduce myself.

I’m Tiri. I’m an accredited coach, I ride, I’m a groom, and I’m also a trainee dressage judge.

I started Better Rides because I wanted to share simple, practical things that can actually make a difference to you and your horse — without overcomplicating everything.
And that’s definitely not stopping just because July has finished.!

Over the next few months there’ll be more Better Rides, more coaching and training content, and I’m also working on something new around one of the biggest decisions we make as riders — buying the right horse.

So if you’ve joined us during July, thank you for being here. There’s lots more coming!

Day 26 of Better Rides

A half halt isn’t pulling on the reins.

It’s one of the most useful tools you can have, whether you’re schooling, jumping or even out hacking.

A good half halt helps your horse:

✔️ Rebalance.
✔️ Stay attentive.
✔️ Prepare for a transition or movement.
✔️ Stay light without becoming tense.

The important part?

A half halt isn’t just about getting your horse together.

It’s a moment of communication, followed by a release that allows them to rebalance themselves.

Next time you ride, think:

Rebalance… then ride forwards.
