History
Shepreth Wildlife Park managed a hedgehog rehabilitation program on-site for many years but, upon seeing the need for expansion, created the Shepreth Wildlife Conservation Charity (SWCC) in 2011. The SWCC also helps many other conservation efforts worldwide and aims to raise awareness about endangered species, which is why you may occasionally see posts about other animals on this page too. We have an Amazon Wishlist which we keep updated with items we most need. You might be able to find these items cheaper elsewhere so feel free to shop around! https://www.amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/ls/10YC81KWYR2TS?ref_=wl_share

We need lots of newspaper to use as bedding for the hogs, so an easy way to help is to save your newspaper and drop them off in the brown wheelie bins outside the hospital or outside the wheelie bins located at the shed near the top of the carpark. If you remove the staples from them first we will be eternally grateful.

‼️ full capacity ‼️

We are so sorry to say we are at full capacity and simply have no more space for any more hedgehogs we are caring for nearly 150 hedgehogs including 73 very demanding hoglets.

We hope to reopen again soon. If you find a hedgehog in need of help please contact the BHPS on 01584 890801 or you can try helpwildlife.co.uk to find a rehabber in your area. Failing this please try your local vet.

We desperately need tins of puppy and kitten mousse and trays of pate for our weaning hoglets. Any donations of such would be greatly appreciated. If donating via Amazon some items will have our address hidden so will need manually inputting.

All very busy here with hoglet arrivals. 🦔🦔

The hats, fedora, fez, beanie and bobble are doing very well and are now eating independently!

We welcomed Griffin, Pegasus and Phoenix last Wednesday after they were found orphaned. Sadly they had been without mum for at least 24 hours and were extremely cold and dehydrated and covered in fly eggs. After a couple of hours warming up they were like completely different hoglets. The trio are now doing extremely well and have wonderful appetites!

With hoglets coming in we are now starting to use quite a lot of puppy formula and mousse. Please if you would like to support us check out our Amazon wishlist to help us continue looking after our prickly pals.

Another surprise birth was Clover on Saturday.

Clover had been with us just over a week after being dug out of her nest by a dog. Thankfully no injuries were present on arrival just lots of roundworm found in her faecal.
Meds were started but less than a week later she popped! Sadly one stillborn but the other 4 were peeping for their mummy.

Clover has since moved off site to raise her little prickle bums. Good luck clover and babies ♥️❣️🦔

Well aren’t you a poppet 🥺🥰

Sweet young Timothy was brought to us after being spotted around 8pm visiting his finders garden. Watching him on her trail camera his finder could really see how very skinny he was, knowing in that instance he needed help.

On arrival to the hospital he was popped in an incubator to warm up and once warm he was started on subcutaneous fluids. Lucky for Timothy he produced a faecal sample for us to test that same day so meds could be started as soon as possible.

Timothy is what we refer to as a bingo hedgehog getting a full house in parasite bingo! Suffering with coccidia, fluke, roundworm and lungworm. Timothy does have a way to go but he is stable and slowly responding to treatment so we have everything crossed for him.

Don’t worry Timothy we will get you to grow into your nose ♥️🦔

Scratchy Charlie was heard coughing on his finders trail camera and seen coming out frequently during the day. The decision was made to scoop him up and bring him to us for an assessment.

On arrival while Charlie was a big lad it was evident he was suffering with quite extensive ringworm (see his crusty snoot) across his body and his faecal was full of lungworm and roundworm. He’s since started treatment for all his ailments and we are starting to see some improvement.

Troy is one unwell pickle 🦔

Troy was admitted over a week ago, coming in very dehydrated and full of lungworm and roundworm. After spending some time in one of our incubators receiving fluid therapy and other supportive care we are starting to see some improvements!

As we head into our busier season we are running low on a few supplies. All of which can we found on our Amazon wish list. Linked below ❣️❣️

A couple of weeks ago we had our first hoglets born into hospital to mummy chubby. Chubby was brought to us after she was attacked by her finders dog the evening before.

She has been off site raising her babies in peace, Chubby did sadly lose the 5th baby in the first few days but the surviving 4 are doing very well ♥️❣️

💧Water for wildlife 💧

Monday alone saw the arrival of 3 extremely critical hedgehogs all were severely dehydrated and so very skinny. Sadly none of the 3 made it past 12 hours in our care 💔

Please help us support our hedgehogs and other wildlife through this extremely dry spell. All we ask is that you pop a shallow dish of water out to give our wildlife a fighting chance. To help support even the smallest of visitors pop a few stones and twigs in the bowl for insects to land on.
