𝗠𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗺𝘆𝗰𝗼𝘁𝗼𝘅𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱.

More than 500 different mycotoxins are known today, produced by fungal activity in crops such as maize and cereals.

Around 85% originate in the field, often from fungi of the 𝘍𝘶𝘴𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘶𝘮 genus. These produce well-known toxins like:
• Deoxynivalenol (DON)
• Zearalenone (ZEN)
• Fumonisin
• T-2 / HT-2 toxins

Another 15% develop during storage, produced by fungi such as 𝘗𝘦𝘯𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘶𝘮.
Crop stress plays a major role. Drought, frost or excessive rainfall can make plants more vulnerable to fungal infection.

Warm and wet weather then creates the ideal conditions for toxin formation.

And because mycotoxins are invisible, odorless and tasteless, feed that looks perfect may still contain toxins.

Sometimes the problem begins long before the feed reaches the cow.
