Gorgeous Jasper is super focussed on his ball! 🐶💙🥎

Jasper loves his swimming sessions and just can't wait to get in the pool as soon as he arrives! He comes to us for regular rehabilitation sessions and was referred by his vet due to undiagnosed issues with his hindlimbs. Jasper has responded well to hydrotherapy but he has no idea he is attending for rehab - he just thinks he is here to have the best time ever and play with his favourite ball! 😂💦🐾

Handsome Reggie! 😍

This lovely boy is a 7 year old Cockerpoo who has regular sessions with us to help manage his cruciate disease. Unfortunately, this is a condition that we see quite often in hydrotherapy and it is thought to be the most common reason for hindlimb lameness in dogs! 😢

Cruciate ligament tears may occur suddenly as a result of an accident, but partial ruptures are most often caused by long term degeneration of the knee ligament, caused over time, by gradual wear and tear. Sadly some breeds are more prone to cruciate disease. Treatment varies depending on the severity of the damage and the individual case. Surgery is often required, but your vet may recommend conservative management as an alternative, which may include pain relief and rest followed by hydrotherapy and/or physiotherapy.

Hydrotherapy can help your dog's recovery or management of cruciate disease after surgery or as a conservative treatment. Regular sessions will help relieve pain, stiffness and inflammation as well as building muscle in the hindlimbs, which in turn supports the stability of the knee joint 🐶💦🐾💙

Tell us... Has your or a friend's dog ever suffered from hindlimb lameness? Have they slipped or had a fall or have you noticed a gradual decline in their gait? Would your dog enjoy a swim in our lovely heated pool?

Please comment or message us if you would like more information or to book an appointment. Alternatively, email us [email protected] or give us a call 01709 701080

ARE YOU WORRIED YOUR OLDER DOG IS SLOWING DOWN?

Sadly, a decline in mobility can often be seen as a natural part of the ageing process for senior dogs. It is estimated that over 80% of dogs aged over 8 years are living with arthritis! Wear and tear affects joints over time; the cartilage cushioning breaks down and this eventually leads to painful bone rubbing upon bone. Signs of arthritis may not always be obvious as dogs will generally instinctively try to mask signs of discomfort and often don’t have a noticeable ‘limp’.

However, there are some subtle signs which may indicate your dog is experiencing pain from arthritic joints.
Have you noticed your dog has ‘slowed down’…... Do they struggle to rise after resting or appear a little stiff at times? Do they struggle to manage the stairs or jump into the car or on furniture? Do they ever lick or chew at their limbs? Are they less keen to go on their usual walks or to potter around in the garden? Have they lost muscle mass or do their joints look swollen? Has their behaviour changed… have they become more subdued, or are they sometimes a little grumpy?

HOW HYDROTHERAPY HELPS? 🐶💙💦🐾

Whilst there is no magic cure for this chronic condition, hydrotherapy can help manage the symptoms of this painful disease and help your dog to live a longer and more comfortable life. Gentle swimming in our heated pool allows your dog to exercise freely without the discomfort of weightbearing on their achy joints. The warmth and compression of the water, helps to RELAX your dog’s MUSCLES, SOOTHE their STIFF JOINTS, REDUCE INFLAMMATION and EASE their PAIN. After just a few sessions clients often notice their dog’s mobility improves, their dog appears more comfortable and they have more energy. Regular sessions of hydrotherapy will also help your dog regain or maintain muscle mass.

If you would love to see your old dog moving more freely and comfortably again, please don’t hesitate to contact us for more information or to book an appointment. Either give us a call on 01709 701080 or email us at [email protected]

Has your dog ever gone into water accidentally… how did they react? Is your dog afraid of the water… do they refuse to go out in the rain? Duke has been diagnosed with Hip Dysplasia so regular swimming sessions in our heated pool will help to ease his pain and stiffness whilst building the muscle mass in his hindlimbs.
