🐶 The breeder said they shouldnt be cut until theyre 6months to a year? False, its crucial your puppy starts as soon as they're able to walk outside or had full vacinations around 14 weeks
🐶 You're a dog groomer not a breeder, breeders know more? Ok but we are the ones who will be routinely grooming your dogs every 6/8 weeks for full grooms or every month for a maintenance groom for the rest of their lives. we're at risk of biting, scratching, aggression, fear and most can cause injury to the dog if its fearful. Accidents happen.
🐶 I groom my dog at home why have you shaved them? Matting! Some Breeders will ill advise you on grooming and equipment needed because they don't want to put you off in buying and how much it costs to maintain the coat. 6+months later you'll have a nervous dog that can get worse or some cases better
🐶 I brush my dog i use a pin and bristle brush! Not affective for curly coats or at all. matting starts at the root if you're not making contact with the skin/body and only surface brushing, it may look fine on top but as the groomer combs the dog and the comb gets stuck then you've not fully combed through. we can comb and brush through the odd friction knot caused by a harness or collar but to dematt a whole body is painful and causes discomfort the dog will learn that grooming is a negative interaction. Professionals should always advise on what can and can't be done in the less painful way. If that means a shave down, your dog will be short.
🐶 my dog is knotty but I want to keep them fluffy? Knots we can handle but if its matting the safest and quickest would be to shave down. The blades need to go under the matts, we don't want to do this but we have to in extreme cases.
🐶 I was told by the breeder not to comb or brush my dog between appointments? False! at home grooming between grooms is essential to familiarise the dog. We only see them every 6/8 weeks for a hour to 2 if youre not combing, brushing or drying the dog yourselves that can lead to matting. Weekly upkeep is required unless you're having frequent visits with the groomer to do this for you monthly then all you need is a trim to maintain a fluffy floof.
🐶 you're too expensive! What other service includes, ear cleaning, plucking, pawdicure, cut/style, shampoo/condition, drying, brushing, coat spray and fragrance.
My prices are very reasonable and still get told im too expensive.
Speak to a professional (if you've bought a puppy) for the correct and safest methods to introduce a floof to grooming. It may take a few appointments for the puppy to become use to grooming those grooms won't be neat but they will be comfortable and the result! you'll have a happy and content floof moving forward.
