🚨🐶 What is Lungworm? And Why Dog Owners Should Care 👇
Unlike regular worms, lungworm can be life-threatening if not caught and treated. It affects the heart and lungs and can cause coughing, tiredness, bleeding problems – and in severe cases, sudden death.
🦠 How Do Dogs Catch It?
It’s usually picked up from:
🐌 Slugs & snails (even tiny ones on grass or toys)
💧 Contaminated water (puddles or bowls left outside)
🐕 Licking or eating grass where slugs or snail slime is present
Even if your dog doesn’t eat slugs, just licking where one’s been can be enough to infect them.
🛡️ How to Protect Your Dog:
✅ Use a monthly wormer that covers lungworm (not all do – check with your vet!)
✅ Don’t leave toys, water bowls, or food outside overnight
✅ Avoid letting your dog drink from puddles or eat grass
It’s a sneaky parasite – but with the right prevention, it’s easy to avoid.
