🚁 Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance Airbase Launch 🚁

We were delighted to be invited to attend the launch event of the new Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance airbase in Southampton.

It was a privilege to see the impressive new facilities and learn more about the extraordinary work carried out by the crews who provide life-saving critical care across our region, 365 days a year. Their dedication, expertise and commitment to the communities they serve are truly inspiring.

As an equine veterinary practice, we understand the importance of being there when every second counts, and it was wonderful to celebrate this significant milestone with such an incredible charity.

Congratulations to everyone at Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance on this exciting new chapter. Thank you for all that you do for our local community. πŸšπŸ’™

πŸŽ₯ In the News πŸŽ₯

We were proud to see our vet Alan featured on ITV Meridian this week, helping to raise awareness about the importance of protecting horses and ponies against Equine Influenza.

Following the confirmation of equine flu in the New Forest, horse owners are being urged to ensure their animals' vaccinations are up to date. During the interview, Alan explained how vaccination plays a vital role in creating herd immunity and helping to reduce the spread of this highly contagious disease among the wider equine population.

If your horse or pony is due a booster, or if you're unsure of their vaccination status, please get in touch with our team for advice.

A big thank you to ITV Meridian for highlighting this important issue and giving us the opportunity to share guidance with the local equestrian community. πŸ΄πŸ’™

πŸ“’ We're delighted to see our vet, Alan Hough, featured in Horse & Hound discussing the recent rise in equine flu cases and the vital role vaccination plays in protecting our horses.

In the article, Alan highlights why vaccination remains one of the most effective ways to protect horses, reduce disease spread, and safeguard the wider equine community. One key message from Alan:

β€œWe need to change the narrative from vaccinations being something you have to do to go to a show with your horse, to something you absolutely should do for the welfare of your animal because you're a good owner.”

Thank you to Horse & Hound for helping raise awareness of this important topic. πŸ‘πŸΌ

🚨 CONFIRMED CASE OF EQUINE INFLUENZA IN NEW FOREST 🚨

In light of a confirmed case of Equine Flu in a herd of New Forest Ponies, we would advise all equine owners with properties on or that border the New Forest and those that ride out on the forest, to ensure all their equines are as protected as possible against Equine Flu. We recommend that equines have received a flu vaccination in the last 6 months, as the virus is airbourne and can travel up to 5km.

Please contact the office if you have any questions or would like to book an appointment to have your equine(s) vaccinated.

🦠 Equine Influenza Update: New Protocols for Competitions & Training Venues 🦠

Due to the recent rise in equine influenza (EI) cases across the UK, the Equine Infectious Diseases Action Group (EIDAG) is urging increased vigilance to help reduce further spread of the disease.

Many equestrian venues and governing bodies are now introducing stricter protocols, including passport checks on arrival and requirements for up-to-date vaccinations. Please check the rules of your governing body or venue before attending any event, clinic or arena hire.

We recommend that owners attending shows, competitions, camps or gatherings this summer should bring forward their horse’s annual vaccination to ensure that their horse has had a booster within the last six months. Owners should also monitor horses closely and take temperatures regularly. πŸ’‰

If introducing a new horse to your yard, ensure it is vaccinated before travel and quarantined before mixing with others.

⚠ If your horse shows any signs of equine flu, avoid attending gatherings and contact your vet for advice.
