๐ฑ๐ Sophieโs Eye Emergency: A Happy Ending! ๐๐ฑ
When Sophie's owner noticed that she was squinting and seemed uncomfortable in one of her eyes, she gave us a call straight away. We were able to offer her a same-day appointment so our vet could take a closer look.
On arrival, it was clear that Sophie was in discomfort and she wasn't shy about letting us know! She was being quite vocal, and honestly, we don't blame her.
After a thorough examination, our vet applied a fluorescein stain to assess the eye and investigate the cause of the irritation. In an impressive feat, our vet was able to remove the foreign material without the need for anaesthesia, which can often be very challenging.
The culprit? Pieces of a grass dart lodged in Sophie's eye, which you can see in the photos. ๐พ๐๏ธ
Once all of the fragments had been safely removed, Sophie was finally able to get some much-needed relief. During the examination, our vet also discovered a small corneal ulcer, which was treated at the same time.
Sophie went home feeling much more comfortable with medication to help her recovery. She returned a few days later for a recheck, where we were pleased to see a good improvement in her eye. She'll be visiting us again soon for another follow-up appointment as we continue to monitor her healing.
โ ๏ธ Grass Seed Awareness โ ๏ธ
During the warmer months, it's always worth checking your pets after walks or time spent outdoors, especially if they've been exploring long grass.
If you notice signs such as squinting, excessive blinking, eye discharge, head shaking, sneezing, licking at paws, or sudden discomfort, it's important to seek veterinary advice as soon as possible. Early intervention can prevent more serious complications and help your pet feel comfortable again.
We're so pleased Sophie's owner acted quickly when she noticed something wasn't right. ๐
Please join us in wishing Sophie a speedy recovery as she continues to heal! ๐พโจ
