💙 MILO 💙
Baby Milo was booked in by his parents for a hair cut. Things didn’t go as planned and I want to talk about it … 🐶
So, Mum and Dad explained that Milo has had baths at home and mini face hair cuts but nothing professional. Mum explained she feels Milo is uncomfortable in the heat and he needs his body hair cutting shorter either with clippers or scissors.
I firstly explained that with it being his first ever professional groom I wouldn’t suggest we use the clippers on him not only because of the stage his fur is at but due to his lack of exposure to them too. I always tell the owners I will do whatever their dog will comfortably tolerate but anything that stresses them out, I simply won’t do, even if it means they don’t get the outcome they came for! Which is what happened on this occasion…
Milo is a lovely, sweet dog who is to put it simply, a proper puppy 🐶 excitable, curious, confident and not afraid to make some noise or moves! All of this is wonderful…until it comes to being around water and potentially dangerous equipment!
Milo didn’t love the bath but we got through it, he then was super upset by the dryer and barked and cried his way through it which then caused him and me stress already as it’s not nice to see a puppy unhappy on your table! I then slowly and calmly introduced other bits of equipment such as the clippers which started off fine until I turned them on and it quickly became apparent it wouldn’t be safe to use them on him during this session. He jumped at me, the clippers and flipped around trying to get away and so they were quickly put away. Milo was super interested in the scissors and wanted to lick and touch them and so again I decided not to push this.
Milo’s parents were naturally disappointed that they didn’t get the outcome they wanted and via message I quickly determined “great, they hate me and I’ve lost them as clients”.
However … after handing Milo back and having a good chat and educating mum and dad on things they weren’t sure about, they asked if he could come back for regular de-sensitising sessions to set him up for a healthy and positive grooming future. Best outcome achieved for all ✅ 🐶
