☀️ 32°C TODAY — DROP-INS, NOT DOG WALKS! 🐾

Firstly, a massive THANK YOU to all of our wonderful clients for being so understanding while we’ve swapped walks for drop-in visits during this heat. 💚

We know dogs love their walks, but when temperatures are this high, their safety has to come before their usual routine. A missed walk can be made up for. Heatstroke can be fatal.

And then there’s the bit I really wish I didn’t have to say… 😬

If you’re looking outside at 32°C heat and still deciding that now is a good time to take your dog for a walk… pleas DON’T🤦🏼‍♀️

We’ve seen dogs being walked during the hottest parts of the day and, quite frankly, it’s incredibly frustrating to see. There is absolutely no need to put your dog at risk for the sake of getting a walk in.

They won’t suffer from missing a walk. They CAN suffer from being walked in extreme heat.

Keep them home. Keep them cool. Give them enrichment, play, cuddles, garden toilet breaks and save the adventures for when it’s safe again. 🐶💚

With the temperature climbing today, Lola’s usual walk was swapped for a drop-in visit to keep her safe and comfortable.

Safe to say she wasn’t too disappointed with the change of plans… she spent a good portion of her visit laid upside down demanding belly tickles 😂🥹💜

No hot pavements or unnecessary exercise — just plenty of fuss, cuddles and one VERY relaxed Lola!

At Furever Friends, your pet’s wellbeing always comes first. If it’s too warm to walk safely, we adapt their visit so they still get plenty of company and enrichment. 🐾☀️

Meet the lovely Jaz 🥹🦜

Jaz is one of our feathered friends who we care for through our drop-in visits. She isn’t a fan of being handled, and that’s absolutely fine — pet care isn’t one-size-fits-all! 💚

Our visits are tailored to the individual pet, their normal routine and what makes them feel most comfortable. For Jaz, that means giving her the space she prefers while making sure she has everything she needs and can enjoy some time out of her cage in familiar surroundings. 🏡🦜

Whether they have paws, claws or feathers, we want every pet in our care to feel safe and comfortable. 💚

💘🐾 Furever Friends’ power couple… Lola & Hugo! 🐾💘

They might not live together, but you’d never know it from the way these two absolutely LOVE being together. 🥹😂

The minute Lola & Hugo see each other, it’s game on — running around, exploring together and generally acting like they’ve been reunited after years apart rather than since their last walk. 😂💚

So naturally, we’ve made it official…

💍 Lola & Hugo are boyfriend & girlfriend. 💍

Just look at them trotting along side by side😭🐾 We absolutely love seeing genuine little friendships form between the dogs on our group walks — although these two may have taken friendship to the next level. 👀😂

🌾🐾 GRASS SEED WARNING 🐾🌾

Something so tiny can cause a surprisingly big problem for our dogs.

Grass seeds (often called grass awns) can easily become caught in a dog’s coat during a walk. Their pointed shape means they can work their way through fur and pierce the skin, and they may also enter the ears, eyes, nose or paws.

Once embedded, they can continue to travel into the tissue and may cause pain, swelling, infection or abscesses — sometimes requiring veterinary treatment to find and remove them. 🏥🐶

🌾 After walks, get into the habit of checking your dog, paying particular attention to:
🐾 Between the toes & paw pads
👂 Inside and around the ears
👀 Around the eyes
🐶 Nose & mouth
🐕 Armpits, groin & tummy
🐾 Anywhere with longer/thicker fur

Keep an eye out for sudden licking, limping, head shaking, pawing at the ears/face, sneezing, coughing, redness or swelling.

💚 Our Furever Friends tip: A quick head-to-paw check after every grassy walk only takes a couple of minutes and could catch a grass seed before it becomes a much bigger problem.

If you find one sitting loosely in the coat, carefully remove it. If you think one has entered the skin or another part of the body, or your dog is showing symptoms, contact your vet rather than trying to dig it out yourself.

This is what Friday walkies look like at Furever Friends 😍🐾

Fresh air, plenty of space to explore and a very happy bunch of dogs doing what they love. 💚

Group walks aren’t just about getting those steps in — they’re a chance to sniff, explore, burn off some energy and enjoy time around their four-legged friends. 🐶

We take care when putting our groups together, considering things like personality, energy levels, confidence and compatibility, because the most important thing is that every dog in our care is happy and comfortable.

Big, small, fluffy or not-so-fluffy… there’s quite the variety in this little gang! 😂💚

And judging by those faces, I think Friday walkies were a success. 🐾
