As temperatures aross Sicily, some local supermarkets and shopkeepers are opening their doors to an unexpected group of customers — stray dogs looking for somewhere cool to escape the heat. 🐶☀️❄️

In places such as Licata, Sicily, dogs have been welcomed inside air-conditioned stores, where they can lie on the cool floor and get a much-needed break from the scorching temperatures outside.

And the kindness doesn't stop at the door.

Some businesses have also provided water and food for animals in need, giving stray dogs a safe place to cool down, eat and rest.

Photos and videos of dogs calmly relaxing inside supermarkets have touched animal lovers, highlighting something important. Dogs feel heat too. So as extreme heatwaves sweep through Europe, compassionate measures need to be taken to protect animals and people.
During extreme heat, access to shade, water and a cool environment can make a huge difference for animals who have nowhere else to go.

What might seem like a small act of kindness can mean everything to a homeless animal searching for relief.

Hopefully, more businesses will follow their example and remember that sometimes, all it takes to make a difference is simply opening the door. ❤️🐾

Pero the sheepdog, was sent on a trial to a farm in Cockermouth, Cumbria, because the new farmer needed a skilled dog to round up sheep and work alongside a quad bike.

He failed to settle into his new environment and missed his family, so he escaped.

He traveled 240 miles, on a route he'd never done before. But his nose and the smell of home was all he needed.

That's a long distance for a dog. He walked through fields, forests, and towns. He crossed rivers and hills.

To complete the 240-mile trek from northern England back to mid-Wales in just 12 days, Pero had to average an astonishing 20 miles per day.

When Pero arrived home, he had a slight limp and had lost some weight, but he was otherwise healthy and well-fed.

After coming inside for his evening supper, Alan James stepped back outside and found Pero waiting on the doorstep, jumping in circles with excitement.

Blown away by this unbelievable display of devotion, the James family declared that Pero had earned his place and would happily stay on their Welsh farm for the rest of his life.
