Lots of babies in over the last 2 days who I’ll introduce when I have 5 to take photos🫶🏻

Thank you to the wonderful Teodora who from her work place during work hours caught the train here with a juvi crow who was unfortunately dropped off as injured but actually a really healthy fledgling with no details, but she also provided some food for babies here too🫶🏻

Stop taking fledglings home. Google is free.

I’m full, but sparrows don’t take very long to raise and release and I have other sparrows in they can go in with should time overlap by the time at the very least the one is slightly older. So those I’ve had to turn away with small birds today it’s because I don’t have any of that species in or they’ll grow considerably in which I don’t know if I’d have a space to accommodate them by the times it’s needed.

This isn’t the same baby they’re siblings, this is unfortunately an example of failure to thrive.

Both will be given the exact same chance but this is why babies us rehabbers have in often don’t make it. If you’d just found the one you’d never know the baby was seriously lacking in development and this is why it’s unfair to give anyone a hard time if babies don’t make it.

I’ve honestly had I think the worst 7 days I’ve had within the entire rescue so excuse my online absence I’ve still be available via messages🫶🏻

I took on a pure emergency Saturday night and this poor little baby didn’t make it but I wanted to use part of their case as a bit of visual awareness. We made sure he didn’t suffer and was absolutely as comfortable as possible until they passed away peacefully🫶🏻

He came to me extremely lethargic, couldn’t open his eye due to an injury so I opened the eye to check what damage he was looking at and I immediately went into “panic” mode he had fly strike at this point only visible in the eye upon further checks he also had it on a leg. What you can see on my lap is just what was on about a one inch by one inch area they lay hundreds.

Fly strike is beyond horrific and a real race against time you’ve got to be quick and careful which is extremely stressful as they don’t usually go hand in hand. What you can see are fly eggs in the heat we had when he arrived they hatch in as little as 8 hours from being laid and when they hatch they eat and eat and eat… their host. If you see ANY animal with fly strike this is usually a huge sign the animal is unwell if they appear well they still need immediate medical intervention to have every single egg removed. From a short distance fly strike looks like small grains of rice.

If you find an animal with fly strike DO NOT warm them up this will deincrease hatch time. Try everyone you can every vet or rehabber if your awaiting messages or calls back and your comfortable with it please start to remove the eggs every egg gone is one less maggot and a huge help to the animal. I use a toothbrush as they’re really fine and gentle and then plastic soft end tweezers for the awkward places.

Just as a reminder I am very much at capacity🫶🏻

I know it’s frustrating and I understand the anger but I can’t have anymore in at the moment from 6am - 11pm everyday I am feeding and cleaning.

Fledglings I know it’s horrible to put them back but that’s our instincts because they’re small and cute they’re best chance is where they were found (if on the road by the nearest bush/tree) and let parents do their job we’re all bursting at the seems with for the most part babies that don’t need help🫶🏻
