With the warmer weather that’s finally arrived please remember to think carefully before walking your dogs in the heat ☀️🐾
Early mornings or later evenings are always safest when temperatures are cooler. Hot pavements, high humidity and overexertion can quickly become dangerous for dogs.
Extra care should especially be taken with:
🐶 Brachycephalic (flat-faced) breeds
🐶 Older dogs
🐶 Larger/heavier dogs
🐶 Puppies and dogs with underlying health conditions
These dogs can struggle far more in warmer temperatures and can overheat very quickly.
Ways to help keep your dogs cool:
💦 Cooling mats, cooling coats or damp towels
💦 Plenty of fresh water available at all times
💦 Paddling pools or shaded areas in the garden
💦 Frozen treats or enrichment toys
💦 Short toilet breaks instead of long walks on very hot days
Please remember that missing a walk for a day or two will NOT harm your dog, but heatstroke can kill.
Mental stimulation, scent games and enrichment at home can tire them out just as much as physical exercise.
Let’s all keep our dogs safe and happy this summer 🐶
