🚨ATTENTION 🚨
I thought I’d share my traumatic experience with you all that I encountered yesterday with my two dogs, from a collar entrapment.
After hearing what was obviously distressed vocalizations coming from Esme, I bolted to see what was going on, As I approached the very difficult situation of entangled dogs, firstly I thought it was a fight and tried breaking them up but then I could see Frankie’s Jaw was not coming away from Esme’s neck, then I could see Frankie’s jaw had become entrapped in her collar which had occurred from them playing (they love to play) Frankie had then managed to twist the collar in an effort to free himself, but this only further tightened the collar and was strangulating Esme.
Unfortunately Esme was wearing a metal buckle style collar (Image attached) therefore I could not release the collar as it was so tight and was panicking more and more as Esme started to suffocate, By this point, it was obvious I was losing Esme. Her eyes bulged from her head and she went all limp, luckily i did manage to free Frankie’s jaw whilst screaming and shouting No,No,No, I was losing my Baby right in front of my eyes, but I wasn’t giving up, whilst being covered in blood from Frankie’s mouth! After Frankie’s jaw was free from the collar she collapsed on the bed and went stiff, no surprise Frankie immediately bolted from the house into the garden (he doesn’t like shouting and could see I was a panicking mess), so I was then left alone in the house with a dead dog.
Exhausted already from my initial efforts to resolve the situation and the only Person home at the time, I knew I had to do CPR, After about a minute (seemed like a lifetime) she started to breathe and come round, and her heartbeat became strong and steady. Amazingly, after a few more minutes, i put her back up on her feet, holding her up and she was able to walk.
Both Pups are now fine, THANK GOD!! 🩷💙
If I wasn’t home, Esme would not be here with me today 😭
‼️I see many of dogs come into the salon with buckle collars so PLEASE if you have a buckle collar… BIN IT NOW!! They are not safe‼️
I’ve attached images of the better collars to have for easy release incase of an emergency, although if your home please try and leave the collars off your dogs as they can get it caught in anything 😢
I would not want anyone to experience and go through what I did yesterday, it broke my heart 💔
⛑️All dog owners should take up a first aid for dogs course ⛑️
No collars in my house from now on!!!
