The Cheshire Cat Pet Sitter

The Cheshire Cat Pet Sitter We are Darren and Kim - The Cheshire Cat pet sitters, a service dedicated to providing the very best care for your cats while you're away from home.

We offer peace of mind by visiting your cat in their own home. Covering Stockport and surrounding areas. We are Darren and Kim. We established The Cheshire Cat Pet sitting Service because we simply love cats! The idea to start our own cat sitting service came after struggling to find the pet sitting service that was right for us within our local area. With over 30 years' experience caring for cats

, all strays with difficult backgrounds, we understand that every cat has different needs and requires different levels of care. We currently have 3 cats - Polly, Milly and Jarvis. All are now senior cats and Polly, who is 18, is currently be treated for hyperthyroidism. Our lives revolve around these three cheeky cats. Darren has previously worked at Animals in Distress animal sanctuary for a number of years, where he gained valuable experience caring for cats of all temperaments, as well as dogs and other small animals. Darren is passionate about the environment and the natural world and he's a keen ornithologist. Kim grew up with cats, dogs, hamsters and goldfish and has, like Darren, had a lifelong love of animals. She was lucky enough to live in Tanzania for three years, where she had the opportunity to see big cats and other large animals in the wild. She's happy now to be settled back in Stockport with three slightly smaller cats!

This cheeky little monkey is Simba and we are delighted to have him join our ever growing cat family.

Simba is an absolute joy to care for. He's a mischievous little fella, but he was as good as gold when we cared for him recently. He's so loving and gentle, but he really does think he's a little lion. He absolutely loves to play and he was enthusiastic about everything we had to offer. He loved the chaser toy we brought with us so much that mum bought him his very own when she returned. He also loved to chase balls of tin foil around the garden along with his wand toys and bits of string and feathers.

When Simba isn't leaping and bounding around the garden, and during breaks between play, he just wants love and affection. He loves to be picked up and cuddled and he has the most kissable little nose.

Fortunately, we will be seeing this little man again soon. We can hardly wait!!

May we introduce you to Maisy and Dora. Two beautiful girls, with very different personalities!

Maisy is a senior cat. She's an adorable girl and so incredibly friendly and affectionate. She'll squeak when she sees you, and get up for a big fuss. We were, of course, more than happy to oblige her! She also had a playful side and would often show us her favourite toys. We also (re)introduced her to the laser pen. She loved it! We played in short bursts so as not to tire her out, but watching her chase the laser was a joy. She has since been bought one of her very own, and we hear that her mobility has improved as a result. We're so pleased. ☺️

Dora is however rather shy. She came out to see us, but stayed at a distance, just watching what we were up to. Sometimes, she would hide under the bed and we would just sit and talk to her. This is ok - we let cats take their time to get to know us, and hope that when we see her next, she'll come and say a proper hello!

This is Wilson and isn't he handsome!

Our first visits with Wilson went very well indeed, despite him being a little shy at first. A slow, steady and patient approach was required and on each visit he grew in confidence.

Wilson is particular about where he likes to play and on the stairs works best for him. He invited us to play with him on the stairs and he loves the laser pen or for us to throw his toys to him so he can catch them or bat them back. As you can see from the pictures, he loves to roll about while he's on the stairs and he occasionally rolls off!!

Wilson is such a lovely cat and when he learns to trust you, he's so affectionate and such good company.

We simply cannot wait to see him again!

This little stunner is Mia

We have been caring for Mia for quite a while now, but sadly she has moved out of the area and it's unlikely that we'll have the opportunity to care for her again.

Mia can be a shy girl, but she made fantastic progress in the time that we were sitting for her and we are going to miss her. We'll miss her crazy moments when she gets overexcited during play and her general loveliness. She's the cheekiest little cat and we hope she'll settle into her new home fast. We're sure she will and we have been promised updates on her in the future.

Enjoy your new life Mia and hopefully our paths will cross again in the future x

Lucifurr and Salem are Cheshire Cat regulars

Last December, Salem (we posted on this at the time) went missing and we were distraught. We cared for Lucy (blue bell on her collar) on her own around Christmas and it just didn't feel right.

Now there's a happy ending coming!! A month after he went missing, Salem was returned to his mum. Salem needed to be nursed back to health after his ordeal, but as you can see in the pictures, he is on the mend and looking fabulous.

The importance of getting the word out and posting everywhere possible is essential if your cat goes missing and Salem might not have made it home without the hard work his mum put into finding him.

Salem and Lucy are inseparable and it's wonderful that they've been reunited.

Meet little Frida. She is another newbie to The Cheshire Cat, and what a cutie she is!

Frida had a difficult start in life and was rescued as a stray. She hadn't had much contact with humans and spent several weeks hiding away when her new family kindly adopted her. For cats such as Frida, who are very timid, only one of us visits until they are more confident. I (Kim) was the lucky one who got to spend some time with her.

She looked scared at first, and would only come down from the windowsill when I left the room. But after a day or so of sitting quietly and talking to her, she started to come down while I was there to eat her food and wander around.

By the final visit, she even had a little play with some string. I was so thrilled that she had come out to see me. This really is one of the most rewarding parts of our work - gaining the trust of very shy cats. I can't wait to see her again soon.

This is Olive. Isn't she beautiful!!

We have cared for Olive before on several occasions, but it feels like such a long time since we were last with her.

Olive was very pleased to see us again. She knows that when we visit, we're there to entertain her! She gets so giddy during play it's a joy to see. She is such a funny little cat and it begs the question. Who is entertaining who? She has also figured out when her time with us is about to expire and she often heads upstairs to bed to sleep off all the excitement. She definitely makes the most of every visit with us and we're looking forward to the next time we see her.😊

This is Daisy and she is another Cheshire Cat newbie and we cared for her for the first time recently.

Daisy was a little shy at first, but that didn't last long and she made the absolute most of every visit with us. For daisy, everything is fun and she loves to play. Whether she's chasing small balls up and down the stairs or chasing the laser pen, skidding and sliding in her pursuit, Daisy was just unstoppable and very funny to watch.

Not only is Daisy a fun time girl, she is the most gentle and loving little cat. She's dainty and petite and so easy to fall in love with. We have fallen in love with Daisy.

We are very much looking forward to seeing her again soon!!

This gorgeous little black boy is Angus

We were asked to sit for Angus recently for the first time and he was an absolute delight to care for.

It's not always so easy for some cats when we visit for the first time. When we enter on the first day of any set of visits with a new cat, it's important to make sure every cat is comfortable and at ease with us as soon as possible. It's important that every cat feels comfortable and happy in their own home. We want all of the cats in our care to have fun and enjoy their visits.

Angus was quick to settle and he thoroughly enjoyed himself. He's a chatty little cat, affectionate and playful, and with each passing day he grew in confidence. It's always such a pleasure to see a cat so pleased to see us when we walk through the door.

We are very much looking for to seeing Mr Gus again in the not too distant future.

This is Tiger, a.k.a. Baby and we had the pleasure of caring for him for the first time late last year.

Tiger is a confident and playful little fella and despite being a little unsure at first, he adapted well to having us visit him. Tiger is a cat that is perfectly happy with own company, but he also loves human company.

Playing with wand toys, on or under a sheet of crumpled up brown paper is the best for Tiger and he also loves to play with a laser pen. He does get rather excited at times which is a joy to see and when he's not charging about, he loves a good old fuss.

We are very much looking forward to having the opportunity to care for him again in the future.

Let us introduce you to Creeper, Salem, Spider and Elvie. Despite their spooky names, these four are adorable, and have such great and varied characters. 😊

Creeper (tabby and white) was always first to greet me, super friendly and affectionate, and the first to get involved in any fun and games. His mum said he might be nervous. Not so! He was a little sweetheart. 😻

Salem (ginger) is a young boy, but a wise old man at heart! He was friendly and confident, and did take part in playtime, but liked nothing more than lying in his bed or chair, lapping up the strokes and fusses.

Spider (black and white) was not in the slightest bit scary to an arachnophobe such as myself! She was the most cautious of the household, watching me from within her cat tree. But by the final visit, she came out to say hello, and realised there was nothing for her to be scared of either!

Elvie (long-haired tortie) is the baby of the group. She's super friendly and super playful! And very beautiful, as I'm sure you'll all agree.

It was a real pleasure to get to know these four gorgeous felines. We hope to see you all again soon.
