The Cheshire Cat Pet Sitter

The Cheshire Cat Pet Sitter We are Darren and Kim - The Cheshire Cat pet sitters, a service dedicated to providing the very best care for your cats while you're away from home.

We offer peace of mind by visiting your cat in their own home. Covering Stockport and surrounding areas. We are Darren and Kim. We established The Cheshire Cat Pet sitting Service because we simply love cats! The idea to start our own cat sitting service came after struggling to find the pet sitting service that was right for us within our local area. With over 30 years' experience caring for cats

, all strays with difficult backgrounds, we understand that every cat has different needs and requires different levels of care. We currently have 3 cats - Polly, Milly and Jarvis. All are now senior cats and Polly, who is 18, is currently be treated for hyperthyroidism. Our lives revolve around these three cheeky cats. Darren has previously worked at Animals in Distress animal sanctuary for a number of years, where he gained valuable experience caring for cats of all temperaments, as well as dogs and other small animals. Darren is passionate about the environment and the natural world and he's a keen ornithologist. Kim grew up with cats, dogs, hamsters and goldfish and has, like Darren, had a lifelong love of animals. She was lucky enough to live in Tanzania for three years, where she had the opportunity to see big cats and other large animals in the wild. She's happy now to be settled back in Stockport with three slightly smaller cats!

This special little fella is Achilles. We've recently completed a lengthy first set of visits with this little man and naturally, we've become extremely fond of him.

Achilles was a little hesitant at first, but he soon adapted to having a sitter and his welcomes each day were so warm and enthusiastic. Once he'd finished up rolling around at out feet in a display of super affection, his list of priorities were food and play, but not always in that order.

When we're visiting a cat over a longer period of time, it always feels so odd on the day when we don't visit them, but it's also comforting to know they're back with their families again.

We're missing this super little fuss monkey already and we're looking forward to seeing him again in the future.

This fine looking fella is Charlie.

We were asked to care for Charlie very early in our cat sitting careers and he is one of our oldest clients. It's for this reason, amongst many others, that Charlie is very special to us.

We love our senior cats and we can't get enough of our black cats. When we visited Charlie recently, it was during an exceptionally warm period of weather and like a lot of cats, he was quite inactive due to the heat. It didn't prevent him from dashing over from his chosen cool spot to greet us each day, before returning to take shelter from the sun.

Charlie is a special little man and it's always a pleasure to spend time with him.

We'll be seeing you again soon Charlie Chops!

Meet Puddy

Puddy is no stranger to Kim and myself. We have been asked to care for him in the past, before we started The Cheshire Cat and so it was a delight to be asked to step in when asked to help out.

Puddy is a senior pud and we adore our OAC's at The Cheshire Cat and yet despite the warmer weather, Puddy couldn't resist a little play. Puddy is a sweet and friendly guy and so gentle, but once he realises you have catnip in your bag or on your person, beware!!!!!! 😆

We are very much hoping to be called upon to care for him again in the future!

Meet Rocky and Simba. Two brothers who are recent additions to our extended cat family and what a joy these two lads are!!

There is no sibling rivalry between Rocky and Simba. They are the best of friends and thick as thieves! They are mischievous and so much fun, yet so gentle and loving.

Trying to describe their personalities is not so easy. It's like peeling an onion. You might think you have them all figured out and then they surprise you. So many layers!!

Simba (silver tabby and white) is the more confident of the two brothers and the first to explore and investigate something new, while Rocky (tabby and white) is slightly more reserved.

Simba is quite the athlete, leaping and twisting in mid air to catch a flying cotton mouse. Rocky tries to emulate his brothers athleticism, often with mixed results. It's always amusing to see cats when they're doing zoomies, but double zoomies with these guys is quite something. it's a dizzying experience to watch!!

These boys don't have access to the outside world, but they have a catio which enables them to safely experience the outdoors. They're very lucky little cats and so adored by their hoomans.

Caring for Rocky and Simba has been an unforgettable experience and we're very much looking forward to seeing them again in the near future.

Meet the adorable Rita, a new addition to The Cheshire Cat family. Isn't she adorable?! Rita is a Persian, but had recently visited the groomers, so wasn't as long-haired as she normally is. Still beautiful though!

Rita was a little shy at first, but within a short space of time, her personality shone through, and she became a very playful cat - often signalling to me with those gorgeous eyes exactly what she wanted (or didn't want!) to do. She loved chasing pieces of screwed up paper, she loved the toys I brought for her to play with, and she especially loved her daily spoonful of mousse! 😂

We hope to see you again soon Rita. 😻😺

We have spent a lot of quality time recently with Sia, Angel and Felix.

We have been reliably informed that they're in position, waiting for us on the days we're due to arrive, When we enter, they're all there and competing for attention!!

Angel (cream) and Felix (black) are brothers and the cutest thing you'll ever see is them sharing a cat yogurt. Sia isn't related to the boys, but she's effectively their mother. She keeps them in check!!

Sia, Angel and Felix live in complete harmony with each other. They're the perfect cat family and we have spent a lot of time with them. We talk about the cats we care for being a part of our wider cat family and that's certainly true with these three. They're the sweetest and most loving cats and so playful and full of wonder. We're so lucky to have the opportunity to care for them.

Meet once again, Jolene and Efa

We've been caring for Efa and Jolene for quite time now and they've been with The Cheshire Cat almost from the very beginning.

Little Efa (black) has been on a journey with us. She was initially quite confident and then seemed to lose her way a little, but now there is no stopping her. Her confidence is sky high and she greets us with the cutest little chirps and instantly wants to play. Efa challenges us to be creative with our play and so we have mix it up by finding new and interesting ways to entertain her.

Jolene is a shy girl and she's the chalk to Efa's cheese. As soon as Jolene hears us enter, there is one thing on her mind. Frozen cat yogurt. There is nothing she loves more. Jolene is a quiet girl, but she has grown to love us. She's always about, keeping an eye on us, but she prefers the quiet life. When the whirlwind that is Efa gets too crazy, she will find a quiet spot and wait for the storm to pass.

These two girls have a special place for us and we'll look forward to the next time we're called upon to look after them.

Dexter, Bella and Casper are the newest members of The Cheshire Cat family.

Dexter (ragdoll, darker face) was always the first to greet us on arrival. Dexter is both confident and affectionate and always the first to instigate play time. We brought a selection of toys to play with and Dexter happily tested them out, just to make sure it's a safe for his brother and sister.

Bella (ragdoll, lighter face) is just adorable. She's playful, but more measured than Dexter. She takes her time to figure things out. Once Bella settled into her visits she grew in confidence and she revealed her true nature. We began to see the best of her.

Casper is a special boy indeed. He has the most beautiful eyes and he's a real charmer. He has his giddy moments for sure and loves to play, but he's happiest in bed, rolling around being stroked and tickled and of course we obliged.

We have thoroughly enjoyed spending time with Bella, Dexter and Casper and we're very much looking forward to seeing them again soon.

May we introduce you to Mango, an adorable 6 month old little boy, who we've had the pleasure of caring for recently.

It did not take long for Mango to win our hearts. As playful as any kitten, following us everywhere, getting under our feet, and playing with everything from battery powered cat toys, to a plain old piece of string.

But he's a very affectionate boy too - he met us at the door and climbed on our knees straight away for a cuddle. In between play, again he'd snuggle up for tickles and cuddles.

And of course, having two ourselves, we do have a soft spot for a black cat. 😺🐈‍⬛

We look forward to seeing Mango again in the not too distant future for more fun and hugs. xx

This beautiful girl is Smudge

We absolutely adore our senior cats and Smudge, who is 18 years old and new to the Cheshire Cat has melted our hearts.

Smudge has hyperthyroidism which is a condition that we're all too familiar with, but she is responding well to her medication and living her best life. She's a quiet girl and likes her own company, but she did make the effort to greet us at the door and she is so sweet and affectionate. She'll also do most anything for one or two of her favourite treats.

We hope to see you again soon little Smudge.

I have some mixed news on two of our cats Polly and Jarvis.

Polly (black) will be celebrating her 20th birthday in October. I don't know her exact birthday, it's just an approximate based on how old I figured she was when she wandered into my life in the March of 2006.

Polly has hyperthyroidism and a recent blood test confirmed her thyroid level was too high and that her kidney function was in decline. None of this came as a surprise, but a change in medication we hoped would address this. A couple of days ago, her bloods were taken again and the results revealed that not only has her thyroid score decreased to a safe and near normal level, but also there is an improvement in her kidney function. The improvement in her kidney function is likely the result of the change in her thyroid. She will be tested again in October. Quite simply, Kim and myself are ecstatic.!!

Now then, our boy Jarvis. Jarvis survived cancer last year. He lost an ear when a tumor was removed (he now has matching ears. The other was was removed when he was neutered as a stray) and we hoped he'd then have a run of good health. That wasn't to be and he was diagnosed with glaucoma in the autumn of last year. Although the sight is his right eye has gone, the pressure behind the eye has been successfully managed with eye drops 3 times a day, and a painkiller has dealt with any pain that he may or may not have been experiencing. He has been checked regularly for the past 12 months, but recently it has been become evident that the medication is no longer working. As a result we have been left with no choice other than to have the eye removed.

Jarvis will have his operation tomorrow. There are always added risks with operating on senior cats, but we're confident he'll be ok. When he's home, we're going to shower him with love and nurse him back to health. there will be no more eye drops and fewer vet trips, and no more pain or discomfort.

We will let everyone know when he's home and safe.

This is Mushroom and she's a British Shorthair and quite new to The Cheshire cat.

Mushroom is adorable and yet at first she was a little reserved, It wasn't long before she came out of her shell and revealed her true self.

Mushroom is playful and mischievous and likes to chase her biscuits and the occasional treat if we throw them for her. Wand toys and even a simple piece of yarn are all things that she likes to chase. She's also another cat that will sit by the sink in the hope that we might turn on the tap so she can have a drink! Very peculiar indeed.

It's not all about the play for Mushroom. She's just as happy to join us on the sofa and have her belly tickled. It's such a hard life 😆

We're very much hoping to see you again soon mushroom x
