☀️☀️☀️ Just a reminder ☀️☀️☀️

🚫 DO NOT walk your dogs in this heat, the pavement can burn their paws and heatstroke can be fatal!

Please keep them rested and cool at home ❄️

SIGNS OF HEATSTROKE:

• Exhaustion/lethargic
• Panting
• Excessive drooling
• Collapse
• Red or pale gums

⚠️ Please be extra cautious if you have a short nosed (brachycephalic) dog, this includes: Pugs, French bulldogs, Sharpei, Bulldogs etc.

Beat the Heat: Keep Your Rabbits Cool This Summer! 🐰🌞

Summer brings sunny days which means we need to take extra care for our furry friends.

Here’s how to keep your rabbits safe & comfortable:

💧 Offer a water bowl so that they can get a better drink; they will drink more efficiently and faster this way, and that’s important in the heat. Cool water will help to cool them down a bit. Don’t chill the water, but make sure it’s not boiling in the sun.

🧊 Do not give your rabbits ice cubes, as they can cause problems with their digestive system.

🧴 Sun tan lotion is a no. They are likely to lick it off, and we are yet to see a rabbit with ear skin cancer.

☁️ Offer plenty of shade, but if you are draping something over a run, make sure the air can circulate. The use of a battery-operated fan on runs or enclosures can help. Aim the fan at a frozen water bottle to cool the air it's circulating.

❄️ Frozen water bottles or cool pods are helpful.

No need to change their diet at all; just stick to their usual diet and make sure they drink lots by following the tips above.

Access to a safe, shady exercise area 24/7 is even more important in this heat as they will want to exercise when it cools down am and pm.

Share your keeping cool tips and photos with us! 📷

Meet Bongo! 🐾

Bongo belongs to one of our team members, Issy. He is the sweetest boy, but had become a little lumpolicious! He needed to have not one, but three little lumps removed! 🩺

He was super brave, but he did wake up a little confused and scared but with lots of love from all the team he settled down and had some food with his mum 🩷

We would love to explain all the scary procedures to the animals and tell them that we are just helping, even though we can't speak animal, we ensure they wake up in a calm environment, keep an eye on any pain they may have, we ask their families what their preferred foods are and keep any toys or blankets from home with them 💚

If your pet has a lump, it could be nothing, but it may also be something, best to check them before they get bigger and especially if they are fast growing, please come and see one of our lovely vets!👩‍⚕️

Let's send Bongo lots of healing vibes! 🩹

Meet Sparky! 🐾

Sparky came in a few months ago with difficulty breathing, we were all very concerned for him. It turned out poor Sparky had contracted Lungworm, this can actually be fatal in some cases, but Sparky was a lucky boy, after spending a week in our 24 hour Medivet Hospital, he was able to go home and continue his medications there in his home comforts 🩷

Sparky is now fully recovered and back to normal life, he was very persistent trying to walk further than he could handle during recovery, but now he's running around and happy as ever 🐶

Lungworm - Angiostrongylus Vasorum affects dogs, foxes and badgers.
It is transmitted through slugs and snails, as this is the host it lives in where it develops, dogs can contract it by ingesting the snails or licking/ingesting contaminated water bodies, grass or pavement 🪱

Don't worry though, we can prevent lungworm with regular worming treatment, please make sure your pets are up to date with their preventative treatments, don't forget this is all included in our Healthcare Plan + the 10% discount for any vet treatment & consults! 🩺

To close Rabbit Awareness Week, we wanted to highlight some Summer tips and tricks to keep your rabbits safe and comfortable this summer.

1) Keep them hydrated - Providing lots of fresh, clean water is essential. Giving them a few fresh vegetables is also a great way to get more hydration into their diet.

2) Provide shady spots - Whether you have an outdoor or indoor rabbit, it’s important to give them lots of shaded areas where they can relax away from the sun.

3) Regular grooming - this helps them to regulate their temperature, particularly if they have long or thick fur.

4) Regular cleaning - Bacteria flourishes in warm, damp spaces, so clean out your rabbit’s litter and bedding twice a day in particularly hot weather to prevent it from spreading.

Summer holidays are on the horizon. Whether you are enjoying a staycation or heading off abroad, read our travel advice so you and your pet are prepared.

What does Pride mean to you?🏳️‍🌈

We asked our Medivet colleagues that very question, and their answers are powerful, personal, and proud.

This video brings together voices from across our community to celebrate what Pride means to each of them. At Medivet, we believe in creating a workplace where everyone can be themselves and feel safe, seen, and supported – not just one month, but every day of the year.

Happy Pride month from all of us at Medivet.
