Over the weekend we have been rather busy here at Redwood Rescues. Let me tell you all about what we've been up to. We found a good home for the pair of male guineas to Grace Lousie Hawkes. One of her guinea pigs passed away before Christmas unfortunately so the intention behind adopting these two boys is to introduce them and to bond them with the remaining lone male once they have settled in. Thanks to Grace and her mum Karen for adopting these lovely boys ð âĪïļ
We also found a home for the two mini Lop brothers Coco and Leo today. The bonded pair of bunnies that had came on Christmas Eve as rescues. They were adopted by Linda Moore. Her business is pet parties Party Pets linda moore. These rabbits hadn't seen much human interaction before they came in, I don't believe they were handled much but they have come a long way in the time that they have been here but they've gone to an experienced home, with someone who has other rabbits and hopefully they get lots of fusses.
Four animals have found new homes over the weekend. But we've had some new additions too. Yesterday we had three male guinea pigs come in to the rescue from two different people. One was Rocket, who you have already seen pictures of if you follow the page. The other two Chaz and Dave I have yet to introduce to you all. These will be available for rehoming once they've had a chance to settle in but health wise they look very happy and healthy guinea pigs.
Two new cats also came in yesterday from Meows Kitten and Cat Rescue. Frankie and Ray the stray are their names. Frankie is black and white. Ray is almost entirely black and looks like your stereotypical witches cat. Both are currently settling in, we have quite often taken in strays, ferals, as well as ex pet cats from local rescues and we have a number who can free roam the family smallholding where the rescue is located. They have the option to use the barns and stables for warmth and safety in the evenings. By day they have almost 10 acres to explore. Beds, toys and scratching posts are placed in different locations on site for them to use.
Chicks. We had two baby cream legbar cockerels come in today. They were hatched on the 15th of December and are a little over a week older than my naked neck chick's which were already here. James had reached out through the page to ask if I would consider taking the cockerels he hatched, as it is a breed where the s*x is visually distinctive even at a young age. As they need to be on heat and as I only have the one brooder currently set up. They have been introduced to my naked neck chick's and have taken to each other beautifully ðĢ
Stay tuned for updates throughout the week. I will be posting pictures and videos of the new animals. We will also have some of the rescues that were already here available for adoption so please look out for posts such as this and share them to help find good homes for the animals when needed. Thanks to everyone for their support, sometimes tagging your friends or sharing on your socials can make a big difference and it helps to raise awareness for the rescue.
Thanks to anyone that has made a donation to the rescue whether that has been via the Amazon wish list, in person or through PayPal. We're up to ÂĢ107 in donations in the PayPal account thanks to Laura Clarke, Moneyworriesuk.com, Heidi Pardoe and Linda Parish for their generous donations. Some special mentions below ð
Work & Wear Direct donated a box full of clothes to keep me warm. I didn't ask for anything for myself only for the animals but I'm grateful for them as I rarely get the time for clothes shopping and it's one of my least favourite things to do anyways. But anything surplus to requirements or that I cannot or will not use will be either used to help with fundraising for the rescue or donated to local homeless to help keep them warm this winter. Most likely a bit of both. Thank you for your kind donation. I will be in touch re getting some embroidery work done with you soon.
Happy Tails With Lucy donated a double hutch and indoor cage. As well as some bedding to be used with the animals. Always lovely to see you Lucy and it was good to meet Bradley and River. We will plan a day soon when River can meet some of the other animals when you have more time. Should anyone be interested Lucy offers dog walking and pet sitting locally so be sure to give her a follow on Facebook and support a small local business if you're able to by booking her to look after your pets ð ð âĪïļ
Helen Brilus donated a large custom hutch which used to belong to a bunny named Hugo. He passed five years ago and I was told that Helen was rather sentimental over his hutch and that letting go of it wasn't easy for her. But she wanted to support the rescue and to put it good use. Plus if she was ever to get bunnies again she told me that they would be indoor pets, just as Hugo ended up being he lived in the house and had his own bedroom. Thank you Helen for your donation and do message us to plan a visit soon.
Raoul from Facebook marketplace was offering a free chicken house. I messaged him to ask how much he would like for delivery and if this would not be possible where he was based so I could try to arrange for collection. Not only did he deliver, but he wouldn't accept a penny for fuel, he also donated a dustbin full of layers pellet and a feeder free of charge. The coop needs some repairs and TLC but is solid. After some work has been done on it, it'll make some chickens very happy.
Marie Perry and her children often volunteer here to help out with the animals . But she also regularly collects bric a brac donations on behalf of the rescue and she visited us with a car full again today. Thank you Marie. I really appreciate all of support and help. We accept all sorts of items as donations here they don't have to be animal related only. The plan is to do some boot sales, markets and fetes later in the year raising funds to support the rescue from this but understandably this time of year is quiet and sales are slow.
Good night to everyone from me and all of the animals. We're still taking a break from doing open days and having regular hours for the time being. So it's visits by prior appointment only at the moment. Should you want to arrange to meet me, drop off a donation, rehome or adopt an animal you are welcome to call, text or message me through the page. My mobile is the best way to reach me but please appreciate I receive a lot of calls and messages and whilst I try to keep on top of them. I am one man and a busy one at that trying his best. Peter.
