🌞🐶 Hot Weather Reminder 🐶🌞

As temperatures rise this week, your dog's safety and wellbeing must come first.

Please ensure dogs are not walked to the grooming pod during excessive temperatures. Hot pavements and prolonged exposure to heat can quickly lead to overheating and heat-related illness.

For the welfare of all dogs in our care, any dog arriving heavily panting, overheated, or already showing signs of heat distress may be refused service. In these circumstances, the appointment will still be chargeable as the booking time has been reserved.

Signs of heat distress can include:
🐾 Excessive panting
🐾 Lethargy or weakness
🐾 Excessive drooling
🐾 Bright red gums
🐾 Disorientation or unsteadiness

Please plan your journey carefully, use air-conditioned transport where possible, and contact us if you have any concerns about travelling in the heat.

Thank you for helping us keep your furry friends safe and comfortable. ❤️🐾

The last spaniel post of the week - Clipped styles

We can do so many styles when we clip cockers, changing features to suit your dog and lifestyle.

So here’s a few clipped of styles for your consideration

slide 1 - Skye
Clipped all off short included eyes and head.

Slide 2 - Pippa
Clipped all off short keeping ears - note the slightly duller red coat due to the clipping process - reference the other stripping post regarding colours.

Slide 3 - Sophie
Clipped off body but keeping the legs slightly longer, no skirt and thinner ears short to leather

Slide 4 - Maisie
clipped off to the traditional style keeping skirt, legs and ears.

All beautiful examples of spaniels!

Got a spaniel question ? What should we post about next ?

Carding & raking.

Another option for a more natural finish on dogs that arnt suitable for hand stripping is carding and or raking.

Dead coat is removed with the use of carding knife or take leaving the coat lying flat, keeping the outer top coat in tact. Followed by legs and skirt cut to desired length.

Why can’t they be stripped
- castrated and spayed dogs alters the hormones altering how the coat can grow and be pulled, making hand stripping painful.
- elderly, older dogs may struggle with the time stripping takes and it may be kinder to have a slipped off shorter style.
- Some dogs simply don’t like the sensation of stripping making them anxious or reactive to the process so in these cases it’s simply better to find a alternative

Slide 1
Maple - A heavier coated cocker before & after carding.

Slide 2
Ralphy - A working cocker carded with short trim

Slide 3
Bobby - Springer before & after with tighter trim but a natural body finish.

Slide 4 - Max show type cocker with a heavier coat, use of card & rake in a fuller trim.

With all these natural beauties it’s hard to choose a favourite 😍

Spaniel talk - Stripped vs Clipped

What is it?
Hand stripping is a technique used by groomers to remove the coat from the root by hand oppose to using clippers to cut the coat to length.

Hand stripping
Maintains the coats vibrant colour, waterproof layer and keeps the coat in its best condition. However is more difficult to maintain and not all dogs are suitable for handstripping.

Clipping
Cuts the coat to the desired length. Is suitable for all and is little maintenance the shorter length chosen however does tend to affect the texture colour and thickness of the coat.

Both slides show top image stripped bottom clipped to the same style in dogs with a similar colour.

What’s next - stay tuned for more spaniels.

Meet me Monday - Amber 🧡

This little bundle of energy came to the pod for her 2nd ever groom.

The aim was to retain her beautiful colour and coat whilst keeping her trim and tidy.

I think we nailed it!

Meet me Monday - The story of little Daisy.

Meet daisy the tiny Shih Tzu rescue who hasn’t really known the outside world. She was rescued from a home with over 30 dogs where she was crate bound and found in poor condition.

She had been confined to one room and a crate from what we know and is roughly 12 - 18 months old. Her new owner (already a Pod client) took her under his wing and she really has landed paws first,

We will have to manage her grooming in a slow and different way to ensure she is conditioned to grooming without being too stressed. But I’m hopeful she will continue to progress leaps and bounds.

Slide far right for her rescue condition. (Warning distressing)
Then right for before the pod & after.

Disclaimer - not taking credit for her first groom after rescue this was carried out by the rescue team. 💕

We’re back from an amazing week away at the TT races on Isle of Man 🇮🇲🏍️

We spent our trip watching incredible racing, exploring beautiful beaches, and of course doing a little wildlife spotting — because no adventure is complete without animals involved! 🐾

One of our favourite sights of the whole trip had to be this handsome Rottie, Balti, riding along in his very own sidecar and enjoying the full TT experience with his human best friend! 🏍️🐶💨

Safe to say Balti was getting plenty of attention everywhere he went — and honestly, who could resist that face? 😍

What do you all think… would your dog love cruising around in a sidecar too? 👀

Here at the pod we doodle poodles, poodle doodles and everything in between 💕

This is little Floss at the start of her grooming journey, (she featured the other week) and we can’t wait to share her transformation with you so for today here’s a little clean face. ✂️

Watch this space for her glow-up story 🫧🐾
