Did you know 80% of dogs over the age of 8 suffer with osteoarthritis, and up to 35% of dogs of all ages? 🐾

Osteoarthritis is a condition most of us simply accept as a part of our dogs aging process, but that doesn’t mean we have to accept it. There are so many ways we can manage the affects of arthritis on our pets, from complimentary therapies like hydrotherapy, to pain medications and supplements, to making changes in the home like laying rugs over slippy floors.

I have seen so many dogs whose owners have thought (through no fault of their own) that there was nothing to be done about their progressing arthritis, they’ll simply not have the pep in their step that they used to have. But with a well managed treatment plan, I have seen these dogs begin wanting to climb onto the sofa again, be happier going on longer walks, and just generally look more comfortable with a much better quality of life.

What is hydrotherapy? 💦🐾

Hydrotherapy is the use of water to aid in healing, muscle building, and general rehabilitation for our dogs post surgery, injury, or to maintain them through a chronic condition.

You might have seen hydrotherapy performed in a pool or an aquatic treadmill, here at Tazza’s Canine Hydrotherapy, we have use of a HydroPhysio aquatic treadmill to treat your doggies. It’s an amazing bit of kit that allows me to get your dogs walking whilst they have the benefit of being only partially weight bearing with the help of the water beneath them. This means they get the relief of having some weight off those sore joints, whilst at the same time building the muscle that will help protect them in the long term.

Every dog is different, and so how I use the treadmill will be different for all of them to. Do we need to change the water height? Maybe change the speed of the belt? This might change session to session based on what your dog needs, but whatever the day may bring, we are constantly working towards getting your dogs back on their paws, with patience, empathy and pawsitivity 🥰🐾

I suppose it’s time I introduced myself…

I’m Jodie! I’m a level 4 qualified canine hydrotherapist and the owner of Tazza’s Canine Hydrotherapy.
I’ve worked in the canine hydrotherapy industry since gaining my initial qualification in late 2022 but have been working in various dog care environments for almost ten years. My boy Taz was the reason I started working with dogs, I always knew I wanted to work with animals but Taz made me realise that there is nothing on this earth like our four legged friends, and what better way to work with them than by helping them through some of their toughest times?
In working as a hydrotherapist, I have seen elderly dogs get the pep back in their step, seen paralysed dogs walk again, and seen dogs return to normal life following difficult surgeries. There is nothing quite like it.
I strive to create a clinic that is fear-free and positive, ensuring each session is led by the dog and what they require. My practice is about positive reinforcement, lots of patience, and (most importantly) lots of fusses!
