❗Warning choking hazard❗
Yesterday Coco was rushed into us with a treat lodged in her throat which was partially blocking her airway . Luckily the team quickly anesthetized her and managed to remove the end of a treat. Coco is now doing well at home and resting after her ordeal .

Brachycephalic breeds ( short nose or flat faced dogs) are more likely to choke due to anatomical abnormalities and a long soft palate . Also some of these breeds eat very quickly. So be careful when giving treats . If giving treats avoid hard treats that require extensive chewing .

Cruciate disease refers to partial or complete rupture of the cranial cruciate ligament. The primary symptom of cruciate rupture is limping on the affected hind leg. In most patients, this limp appears suddenly, and is such that the leg is not used at all. As cruciate disease is usually a degenerative process, sometimes the ligament becomes gradually weaker, which may be seen as an intermittent limp or stiffness.

Just like us if we injure ourselves during exercise or through wear and tear as we age, our pets can also end up with discomfort or pain in their limbs, causing lameness. This may be a breed disposition like hip dysplasia in dogs, your cat jumping from a fence at an odd angle and injuring their leg, or perhaps an aging pet showing the first signs of osteoarthritis. If you think your pet is struggling with movement or doesn’t seem themselves, please give us a call today to book an appointment on 01761 412223
