If you were following our post from yesterday… these tiny creatures are ear mites! 🦠👂

Also known as Otodectes cynotis, ear mites are tiny parasites that commonly affect cats and dogs.

Ear mites can cause:
• Itching
• Ear irritation & inflammation
• Dark discharge/debris in the ear canal

Thankfully, they’re easy to treat once identified 😁

Finn came to the practice after his family noticed he was retching and uncomfortable. He was diagnosed with a GDV — a life-threatening condition most commonly seen in larger, deep-chested breeds 🐶

A GDV (Gastric Dilatation Volvulus) occurs when the stomach fills with gas and then twists, cutting off blood supply and causing rapid deterioration. Symptoms can include retching, restlessness, abdominal bloating, and signs of discomfort.

Thanks to the quick actions of Finn’s family and our veterinary team, Finn received emergency life-saving surgery and is now recovering well 🐾💙

Our student veterinary nurse, Alissa, recently travelled to South Africa to volunteer her time, skills, and compassion in support of animals and local communities in need.

During her trip, she worked alongside local animal charities, helping with animal care and gaining invaluable hands-on nursing experience. We are inspired by her dedication, kindness, and adventurous spirit!

Well done Alissa – what an incredible experience and achievement! ✨🇿🇦
