Dear Indi.Her lovely owner found me again when I set up on my own and she lives in Boscastle so used to travel an hour just to get to me every 6 weeks. I’ve groomed Indi for many years and have watched her muzzle gradually grey over the years.RIP sweet Indi

So what does a full groom actually entail?

For long hair dogs that require a haircut it starts with a massaging spa bath using my specially designed Hydrobath. All dogs get 2 washes or if exceptionally dirty might get 3 washes.I only use the highest quality products and will not scrimp on cheap shampoos.I have shampoos tailored for each coat type so will use one that’s best for your individual dog.All dogs will also receive a facial shampoo that is gentle enough to use round the face but gets them mucky muzzles squeaky clean.

Next up is the blow dry. For dogs that will tolerate it I use a high velocity dryer that blasts water from the coat to start getting them dry and to force the hair straight on curly coated dogs and for double coated dogs such as Husky’s and German Shepherds it helps remove dead coat that needs to be removed. When your pooches coat is around 80% -90% dry I switch up to a stand dryer which is more like a human hair dryer with heat which I will then use to fluff dry your poodles, Cockapoos etc. This is also where I will use leave in conditioners and dematting sprays to help with any knotty areas.Using the dryer and brushing the coat at the same time is what gives your dog the perfect brushed out fluffy coat.Using these dryers also ensures I see right to the skin on every part of your dog so can see any abnormalities that I can report back to you. While the dryer is on all dogs will have a ‘Happy Hoodie’ on around their head to protect their ears from the dryer which can be quite loud.

Once every part of your dog has been brushed and combed through thoroughly it’s time to start some trimming .As professional groomers we all have a routine so that we do not miss any part of the grooming process it also means dogs get into a routine too and know what to expect. Of course I can and do change my routines for certain dogs that need extra care or special needs. I usually start here by clipping the nails and then I will carefully trim then hair in and around the pads of the feet. I will then go on to what we call the hygiene areas which include clipping around the bottom, genitals,inner thighs and lower belly. This all done with a small trimmer (a smaller version of a set of clippers).Next up is a tight trim of the armpits and an ear clean with cotton pads.Finally all the prep work done and now it’s time for the actual haircut.

Depending on what breed of dog you have your dog will be trimmed with clippers and finished with scissors or if a double coated dog such a Golden Retriever a tidy trim will be completed with just scissors.All grooms are finished with a spritz of pawfume.

This process can take anywhere to an hour to 3+ hours. Water bowls are provided for them and I will give breaks to dogs that I think need it. Lots of treats, reassurance and cuddles are also included at no charge ☺️🐾

I try to accommodate as much as I can and I have a lot of anxious, nervous dogs on my books. I work 1-1 so my full attention is on your dog or dogs as I can have multiple dogs from the same household in my cabin. I do not use crates and have 30 mins between each appointment so there is no crossover of clients.

Sorry such a long post but just thought I’d put it up for anyone that was interested to know why it can take so long for a grooming appointment.

A day of dapper doodle boys 💙

Bentley is an incredibley anxious chap who at 8 years old has never really warmed to the grooming process. He lets you do everything but remains very nervous throughout 💙

Murphy came in for a light trim all over as waiting for parts of his coat to grow in again 💙

Teddy had his short trim to keep him smart and practical. Also helps keeping him shorter as he’s not a fan of any hair dryers so less hair to dry and stress him out with 💙

Rosie is a very nervous girl especially with any kind of hair dryer. She also had a poorly ear so she went home with not the neatest trim but she went home happy and comfortable 🫧💕
