It’s just good dog ownership when you’re visiting a pet shop or garden centre to make sure your dog doesn’t p*e up anything!!

We need your help…
As many of you know, we’ve always welcomed dogs into the shop and we genuinely love meeting them. We’d really like to continue being a dog-friendly pet shop.
However, over the last few weeks we’ve had a growing problem with dogs urinating in the shop. Unfortunately, it’s not just a case of cleaning up a puddle – products are regularly being damaged and have to be thrown away, which is costing us money. It’s also becoming quite upsetting and frustrating for staff who are regularly having to clean up after these incidents.
Most owners are incredibly apologetic and offer to help clean up, which we really appreciate. The issue is that once stock has been contaminated, it can’t be sold.
We’re trying to find a solution that allows us to remain dog-friendly without continuing to lose stock and put extra pressure on us staff.
We need to hear your thoughts:
🐶 Would you be happy for male dogs to wear a belly band/nappy while shopping to avoid marking indoors?
🐶 Do you have any other suggestions that could help?
🐶 Would you understand if we eventually had to introduce restrictions if the problem continues?
We’re genuinely interested in hearing your opinions before making any decisions. We’d much rather find a solution than stop welcoming dogs altogether.
Thank you for your understanding and for helping us on this tricky one 😢
