❗️GRAPHIC CONTENT❗️ (Educational Purposes)

Uterine prolapse in dogs is a rare but life-threatening complication that can occur during or shortly after whelping. It involves the uterus turning inside out and protruding through the v***a, requiring immediate veterinary care.

One important risk factor that’s often overlooked is excessive traction during delivery. Pulling puppies — especially with force or at the wrong angle — can place significant stress on the uterus. When combined with strong contractions or prolonged straining, this can increase the risk of the uterus inverting and prolapsing.

Other contributing factors include dystocia (difficult birth), large puppies, uterine exhaustion, and retained placentas.

If a puppy is stuck, gentle assistance may sometimes be appropriate — but forceful pulling is not. Early veterinary intervention is always the safest option for both dam and pups.

Education and preparation are key to safer whelping outcomes. 🐾

Surgery to remove the uterus was the only possible treatment for Chip as the uterus had unfortunately ruptured as shown in slide 2 and 3❤️‍🩹

This procedure demonstrates a scrotal ablation with castration, typically performed in cases where standard neutering isn’t sufficient (e.g. disease, trauma, or chronic conditions).

The goal is to remove affected tissue while improving long-term comfort and health outcomes for the patient.

We can’t wait to see Bentley on his post operation check to see how he has been recovering❤️

Happy Monday from Freddo🦁

🐰✨ Rabbit Neutering & Spaying Appointments Available ✨🐰

Keeping your rabbit happy and healthy starts with the right care 💚

Castration (male rabbits) can help reduce unwanted behaviours like spraying and aggression, while spaying (female rabbits) is especially important for preventing serious health issues such as uterine disease later in life.

Our experienced veterinary team provides both procedures in a safe, calm, and caring environment.
