The ladder of aggression is frequently referred to in regards to canine behaviour and body language. Can you recognise the early signs of your dog displaying tension?

If you struggle, drop me a message to find out how to learn what your dog is trying to communicate with you.

Max's amazing progress story 🐾
At just five months old, Max was starting to show some resource guarding around his food, a behaviour that can be worrying for any owner. The good news? With early intervention and the right approach, these behaviours can be improved quickly and safely.
In this video, you can see how much progress Max has already made. By using positive, reward-based training, we’ve helped him feel more relaxed and confident at mealtimes, rather than worried about losing his food.
If your dog is showing similar signs, you’re not alone, and there are kind, effective ways to help. Positive training builds trust, confidence, and a stronger bond between you and your dog.
Feel free to reach out if you are experiencing resource guarding with your dog. www.calmcanineco.uk

Meet Chumlee (photo 1) and Stan (photo 2) – two lovely dogs who recently started having disagreements at home due to resource guarding. Like many households with multiple dogs, tensions can sometimes build around valuable things such as food, toys, or attention.
Rather than letting the situation escalate, their owners reached out for support – and within the very first week we’ve already seen a positive shift.
One of the key changes was introducing some simple but effective management, including the baby gate you can see in photo 3. This allows both dogs to have clear boundaries, their own space, and reduced pressure around resources, which is often the first step in helping dogs feel safe again.
Behaviour work isn’t just about training commands – it’s about understanding what the dogs are communicating, recognising their individual needs, and setting the environment up so they can succeed.
With Chumlee and Stan, this early progress shows how small, thoughtful changes can make a big difference when the right behaviour strategies are put in place.
I’m really looking forward to continuing their journey and helping these two build a calmer, more positive relationship with each other. 💛
If you're experiencing tension between dogs in your home, or noticing signs like guarding, growling, or conflict around resources, you’re not alone — and help is available.

This cutie pie is Max. Max is a Lakeland Terrier who at five months old has started showing guarding behaviour of things he finds valuable. This is a common behavioural issue which can present frequently at this early age. It's important to nip this problem in the bud as soon as possible using positive reinforcement techniques so it doesn't carry through into adulthood. I'll be keeping in close contact with Max's people to make sure he's on track with his personalised behaviour modification plan ❤uk

Introducing Rex! Rex is a Patterdale Terrier who has been rescued by his lovely owners four months ago. He's settled in well to his new forever home but is struggling with some dog reactivity. I'm helping Rex's owners with a bespoke behavioural modification step by step plan to help him realise that not all dogs are scary!

If you need a hand getting to grips with where to start with reactivity, please contact me.
